Every time I go to the range I have to borrow their pistol stand for loading my black powder Trapper. Last night I got the incentive to try to build one myself. Not the best compared to what I see a lot of people making, but I did it myself and it works.

Scrap wood, one hinge from Home Depot a little cutting, sanding, drilling and that's it.

I like the rustic look of that stand. If you ever want to make a fancy one, there's a guy on Ebay that sells really pretty curly maple planks (as well as rifle blanks) for cheap. I think his username is westcoasthardwoods or something similar. Should be easy enough to find though.

Thanks for the comments. I showed it to my shooting buddy today and now he wants me to make him one, so I guess it's ok.

I appreciate the reviews and suggestion for finding different wood. I'll check Woodworkinng Source here in Phoenix Monday to see if they have any decent scraps since it doesn't take too much wood to make. I may make one out of Purple Heart, my favorite wood. Hard but looks nice when finished.
