I went to our local Menards store this morning to get a window well cover for one of my basement windows, and stopped by to look at the maple lumber. Found a nice 1x4" that was 6 feet long with nice figure. To top it off, it was on sale and was being sold as just clear lumber. I figure there is enough in the one piece to make a pistol stand and 4-5 loading blocks. Here's a picture of the pieces I cut for the pistol loading stand:

The wood looks like it has some nice figure in it. I can't wait to see the completed stand!
 
It is going to be 14" tall, because the pistol that I want to use with it has a 12" barrel. The piece with the slot for the forend is 6" long and the slot is 1 1/2" wide. The base is about 10" long. They were all cut from a 1X4.
