Keb said:Many of the old timers will remember JR Salvo. He was well known on the once famous NMLRA rendezvous circuit and at Friendship on the primitive side. He was a blacksmith, bow maker, BP gun maker and primitive trader. He usually ran the archery contests at the old NMLRA rondyvoos, mostly EPR, SEPR and later the ONWTPR. A lot of people knew him but few got along with him or called him a friend. He was a little bit ornery to say the least, but one heck of an artist. He made & sold knives, hawks, pipe hawks, bows, cane arrows and guns, mostly the southern type. He was originally from Ridgeville, So. Carolina but moved to south Ohio around 1992 or 93. He died of pneumonia Jan. 2010 but was stricken with that mesothelioma manure connected with years of working in the shipyards in Charleston. I now occupy his old gun/bow shop and have been selling off his things, (guns & such) for the past 5 years for his widow. This .20 cal smooth rifle was the last one of his items to sell. I am keeping his personal gun, "Malachi", and a couple pipe hawks he made for sentimental reasons and also because they are just awesome.
