My Bess shoots 2F and I prime with the 2F. It seems to do just fine. I use 3F in my .60 smoothbores.

While excersizing the cock and trigger system on my new Centermark, to see how the flint struck the frizzen, I noticed a weakness in the pull of the mainspring and inconsistent trigger release, sometimes binding up. So I decided to pull the lock. The fit to the stock is really nice and snug and I had to push a little on the sideplate screws to ease the lock out of the stock recess.
... and guess what came out in my hands ?

Now I guess I know why the gun was in a Pawn Shop, but the lock does not look bad otherwise.

Not a bad fix, whatcha gonna do ? :idunno:

You should be able to find a spring for it ,at least try to find a reputable FLINTLOCK gunsmith.I'm sure you could have the company fix it for you.I don't know what lock is used on that perticular gun but Ive seen many a busted spring in my time.(and not on an Indian gun :stir:) Sorry everybody couldnt help myself.

Does anybody recognize the lock on this Centermark FDC ?

The inner lockplate has two stamp marks; an upper-case "D" surrounded by a circle. Next to that, is a smaller upper-case "B".

It sure would be nice if those stamps equated to an R.E. Davis lock, that should be easier to obtain a replacement mainspring.

Simply send the broken spring to a reputable ml dealer (TOW, Log Cabin, etc.) and ask them to match and send a replacement, or two. While you are at it, order a mainspring vice if you don't have one. Otherwise you could break or ruin your new spring while trying to install. Otherwise, great buy on that smoothie.

I have the same Centermark gun, an exact twin to yours except for the broken spring. Call Track of The Wolf, tell them what you have and they'll send you the right spring. Mine has never broken but i got an extra spring from them just in case.
I've had mine about 15 yrs. Have shot the same ball load from day one. 70 gr. 2F .015 patch
and .600 ball. I've had to bend my barrel slightly (easy to do)and changed my front sight slightly to get it to hit where I want it to but once done they're wonderful guns. Won a lot of Trade gun shoots with mine.

I received a reply from TotW within an hour of my request. Below is their response, in case it helps someone else out later.

The circle D is the R.E. Davis assembly mark.
The "B" is assembly number.

Our #LOCK-TULLE should be identical except for the external markings, which Centermark adds with a stamp.

You are welcome.
TOTW part number for the mainspring is LOCK-1750-MS.
I also received this response from The Log Cabin;

The “D” in a circle is a Davis stamp.
I suggest that you contact Tim at Davis for replacement of the spring.
Phone number is 419-833-1200 or email at [email protected]

I think the literature in TOW or the Davis site mentions that this lock will work on the Centermark guns, the spring should be sold seperatly by TOW, quite a few years ago I started buying a spare lock spring for every gun I purchasesd or put together as I had a Queen Ann spring break and as luck would have it I have not had a broken spring since and is has been ten years ago, best insurance for not having someting break is to have a replacement on hand.
