hello everyone. i just started firing a sidelock and cap and ball revolver. i have fell in love with this. i'm in the army and just returned from 16 months in iraq. i'm currently stationed at ft polk, la. and soon moving to ft drum, ny. i'm been in for 17yrs and originally from eastern arkansas. thats a little about me since i'm new to the group.

cav scout,
first off let me welcome you to the forum, i am proud to have you with us. second let me thank you for your commitment to our country. 16 months sounds like they forgot you were there or was it by choice, either way, THANKS
again welcome and stay active

thanks everyone. i wasn't forgotten about, lol, even though it kinda felt like it. in april, i was part of all those troops that got extended.

Welcome.

And as Claude said, God bless you. I spend my summer weekends up near Ft. Drum (at Sackets Harbor).

What did you do wrong that they're moving you from a nice, warm place like Lousiana to Watertown, NY? You joining up with the 10th Mt. Div? Quite a change from the swampers of LA. ::

Welcome Cav Scout!
Thankyou for your service. I know it will be enjoying for you to learn about the era of firearms that America's first military used.
God Bless
Gerry

Welcome to the forum, cav scout. I think you will enjoy it here. Lots of friendly and knowledgable folks here. I am a retired 11Charlie Mortarman (retired in '91 as an E-7/SFC). I spent some time in Fort Drum and enjoyed it. First time I ever drank tap water that was ice cold!! We filled our canteens from a sink in the barracks latrine and the water was so cold that our canteens sweated (this was in July of 1986).

i'm going to drum on an AC/RC assignment. its a reserve component advisor. so i won't be with the 10th mountain. since we just returned from Iraq all of the Platoon Sergeants down here are heading to some kind of training assignment to get all the guys ready to go over. so that is how i'm heading from the swamp to the arctic, lol. i'm kinda excited about it since i have never been up to that part of the US.

cav scout, Welcome to the forum. But more importantly, THANKS for serving in Iraq. Maybe with all the members here we could suggest that the Iraqis trade in there AK-47s for frontstuffers. Kinda like convert them or shoot them since the smoke would give them away . Thanks again.
Zman

 "cav scout" I salute you sir! Thank you doesn't do justice. Regardless of what unpleasantries are happening on our soil, I'm still proud to be "American". I'm a newbie to smoke poles myself. However, my Pa raised me up smellin gunpowder and trompin the woods. Welcome to the group. From what I have seen so far, we stand to learn a lot from these fellers.

cav scout : A Big Welcome To The Camp ! !

FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, THANKYOU FOR YOUR SERVICE ! ! !

I'm glad you found us, there's alot of infor here for you to enjoy. And help you with your journey.
Take Care, Steve ( Mtn-Man2u ) :)

i laughed about the trading thier ak 47's. actually something funny about over there. these people have no idea how to shoot. which was fine with us,lol. the first thing they would do when they would get an ak was break the stock off. when they would shoot it was always from the hip like in a movie. we all joked and would tell new guys the safest place to be was straight in front of them. the only way you would get hit is by sheer bad luck. the IED's you have probably heard about was the only thing we worried about.

Welcome to the Forum Cav Scout and thank you for your service for our country. This is one neat web site, all kinds of information can be found here. It doesn't matter how experienced you are with muzzleloading, there is something to be learned from this web site.

Make your first shot count,

Chuck

Hello cav scout. Welcome home and thanks for your service. I was a 19D for about 9 years (Am I safe in assuming that's your MOS as well? lol?). I have been shooting black powder for about 25 years, and I am finding out from this site how much I have left to learn about this sport. Enjoy your guns; stick around and I think you'll learn a lot, too.

yep i'm a 19D, just finished my platoon sergeant time and now heading to an ac/rc job.
