Had this idea this morning when I was laying out my pins for the barrel and thimbles....

works great for oct. barrels, you can even individually mark for each pin depth for a swamped barrel. There is probably something already out there like this, but anyway saved a lot of time laying all those marks out.

not new ,but really handy, they come in all sizes and shapes and condition . Best source is flea mkt or yard sale. one of those things that it is hard to live without. source dates back to and beyond the industrial rev. shine it lube it and appreciate it. Bob

lol I wasn't talking about the square, but the added finish nail soldered on the end of it. I have always used a square to mark my pin holes, but this way I can line the point up perfectly with the lug and mark every position for each lug.

Is it just a nail soldered on? My first thought was that it was a tube with the nail in it. That way you could get everything lined up and press in the nail.

I like it, gonna make one for my next build.

Just a nail, I did make it a little more pointy. I left the head on to tap it with the hammer. I am working on a kit now, the fore stock was already pre-shaped. This made it easier and didn't have to use a pencil.

Roy, as one who works with simple tools, I'm impressed. That is so simple, that I never thought of doing it that way. Thanks for shareing. Good thinking man!!

 Well I have picked up some really neat tricks from others here, so its fun to share simple things like this.

Neato, thinking outside the box and you came up with a very good idea, one can work from the top flat with a steady tool & get dead on.

Nothing like a new twist for an old dance.

Neat idea Roy, KISS (keep it simple stupid). Hard working men such as yourself are like water going downhill-seek the path of least resistance- why make it rocket science, again very solid idea.

Nice tool, Roy.

Hey swampy, you got a cake by your name...

Happy Birthday!!!

thanks guys  been getting a good bit of use over the last couple days, sort of a multi-tool
