Been shooting my new Remington New Army (Pietta) .44. Great fun! I have to admit that I was getting a bit bored with just shooting my flintlock smoothbore, I had worked up a good load for use as a scattergun for squirrels and a reasonable load for PRB, no real experimenting needed anymore for my use of the gun. But shooting this pistol has strongly renewed my interest in BP firearms! Lots of things to try, and things to make too. Made a holster and gunbelt in the last couple weeks, working on accuracy with various loads, etc.

New toys are great!

Squirrel, I take mine out every week and it's still like having a new toy. There's always something to make or fix too. This last week I started doing the paper cartridge thing, using a tube as a jig with the ball on top and then trickling my powder into the paper, via the tube, after I've rolled it. Much easier than other methods. Good luck on the holsters. I'm glad you're havin' fun.

Well post some pics Squirrel Tail! Especially if you are making your own gear like holsters.

I dunno but there are more and more black powder geeks on the pistol range these days and some of them sport some mighty fine pistols - and they know how to use 'em too!

I love my 45 auto but by golly, farting around with lubes and wads and lead balls - and no brass to pick up...there is something to be said for it!

Just wondering. What kind of paper do you use? :hmm:

actually i just tried that last weekend myself. i just used cigarette paper, it seemed to work pretty good. i only had time for 18 shots, but it was the fastest three cylinders ive ever loaded

The '58 Remington is the best revolver in the whole world ! Beautiful to look at, no cap fragment problems and a joy to shoot, and like you said, fun to make stuff for

I just used "Bugler" cigarette papers, they are slightly larger than the "JOB" ones that I tried first. I might try nitrating them but they seemed to burn just fine as is. I also had the fastest three cylinders of my life while using them. Fun stuff.

Ok, here's the gunbelt and holster I've made:

The leather stamp I used I made out of a nail,

I've been experimenting with cigarette paper cartridges of a couple types, they all seem to work pretty well actually, and make loading A LOT faster.

Very nice looking rig. I've had my Euroarms 1858 Remington for over 20 years. It's as much fun to shoot today, as it was the very first time. The first ball went through the X-ring at 25 yards. What more can you ask for? Congradulations
