What can you guys tell me about the flintlock rifles made by Traditions, I have a chance to pick up one of there brand new kentucky rifles at a great deal but don't know anything about their products. I haven't had a flintlock in quite awhile and I would actually like to have one again. I'd be greatful for any input.
Thanks,
Chad

Some people have had good luck with them, they are at the bottom of the chain though. The barrels are usually accurate, but the flint lock may need some tweeking to get it dependable. Depends on how much you can get it for. If you just want a flinter i would check into a Lyman Great Plains rifle or a T/C Hawken. More bang for your buck.

I got a Hawken Woodsman a couple years back (I know it's not PC, But a nice christmas present), and it's been great.

I had some initial problems because I was feeding her 777, and it only lit up sporadically.

After I switched to GOEX 3F, she's been very reliable. Accurate as I am, to boot.

Never fired anything else they've made.... Maybe others have some more info on the Kentucky.

Might also try the search function here, as I think this has been discussed before.

Good luck...

I have a Traditions Shennandoah .50 Flinter.
Bought it at a Flea Market for $80 (can ya beat that DEAL?). It was new in the box....seller said his wife bought it fer him and he never shot it.
I have not had any problems with it....fires EVERY TIME. Alot of gents say that the touch hole had to be enlarged on thiers.. not mine....mine fires everytime...it has a really slim wrist compared to my Lyman Great plains rifle amd alot lighter too.
Although it is not period correct in style..I still love it.its just one of my babies...wouldnt git rid of her for anything...

Traditions makes as fine a quality rifle as you're apt to find from any "mass manufacturer". I have been shooting a Traditions Pa. longrifle for about 20 years now and it has won many matches as well as a few "50 pins".
I have sold many of their rifles (for both hunting and/or competition) with very few complaints. As for the locks needing "tweeking" you would want to have ANY out-of-the-box rifle (cap or flint) properly tuned before firing it, as very few (if any) are.

I have 2 Traditions guns. One is a cap lock Hawkin, and the other is a flintlock trapper pistol. Both have served me well. My Dad and Brothers have T/C Hawkins. They are very nice but they are much heavier. The T/C will take more powder for a bigger boom but I get complaints from my bro's and dad about how much heavier they are. Important if hiking tall mountains while hunting.
