New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

I called and bitched about a non functioning uberti wells fargo and they immediately offered a refund that was in August last year.
I think its more a Uberti issue as all the piettas have been good out of the box with the exception of a front sight on one 58.
 
I got it cleaned up and put 4 cylinders of round ball thru it. Did alright with 23 grains of Pyro P and .375 round balls at a distance of 50 yards, which is the exact distance from my back deck rail to the fence. No, the dog (not mine, don't know where she came from) was not by my target when I shot. Couple of flyers, me, but overall not bad for an open top Colt and my old can't see a rear sight eyes.

Ok, fellas, I really hate to "toot my horn", but I am an intelligent, adult human being with multiple degrees, including one in civil engineering. Not to mention I have six plus decades of practical living experience, including 47 years of shooting muzzleloaders. I can easily distinguish between "red grease" and "rust". And as my screen names indicates, I am a pastor with decades of experience concerning conflict resolution. I am not giving Midway the short end of the stick, and I did indeed contact them immediately in a professional and courteous manner. The person I talked to reminded me of Midway's "no return policy" and. I was instructed in that conversation that any follow-up needed to be initiated with Uberti. I am not going to waste hours on the phone ranting and raving with a "manager" at Midway, just to get $300 back. I will use my acquired skills to clean the gun and hopefully have a good shooter. My singular goal of the original posts was a caveat emptor for those who might be considering a purchase from Midway USA. If you have had clean businesses transactions with them in the past, I would not attempt to dissuade you from continuing in your decided course of action. As for myself, I will no longer be a customer of Midway.

Here is a pic of one of the rusted nipples I just removed from the cylinder. Also a pic of the "Business End" of the cylinder. Top left has corrosion, top right has the remnants of a spent cap, thus obscuring the ability to see the flashhole. I will clean it up and use the revolver, as I am not the type of fella to go ballistic on an hourly employee, but again, "Buyer Beware". View attachment 303204View attachment 303205

Guess yer satisfied with getting damaged goods then, Midway and other sellers of goods love customers with your satisfied attitude of getting damaged new products and not standing up to your rights. Has nothing to do with degrees you have or your pastorship, well and good you have them and are a pastor but not wanting to spend a few minutes talking to someone at Midway besides an employee on the phone who has been given a set direction on what to tell a customer, well I guess you'll have to just contend with a new revolver with issues, your choice. You've already fired it and now own it. IMO I don't know why you even bothered with your first post. Not all Midway sells is damaged goods and in dealing with them over the years have never had a problem with them and if I had I would have talked with whomever until I was satisfied in a replacement or refund. Guess $300 doesn't mean anything to you. All I'm saying and going to respond to this thread, not going to bother reviewing any more posts. Have a good day. CC

Yes, it is my revolver, I was aware of that fact from the time I clicked "Buy Now" on my phone screen. I will live with my purchase. As to why I bothered with my first post, I have made that abundantly clear to all with rudimentary reading comprehension. It was a warning to those who may be considering a purchase from Midway. As far as "standing up to your rights", and the affection of Midway and other "sellers of goods" have for those of us with a "satisfied attitude", my time and energies are better utilized doing important things, not haggling with people I do not know over the phone. I rolled the dice for $300, and I did not lose, just was not as far ahead as I thought I should have been. I spent one hour cleaning and getting the revolver ready for use, and after that it shot and functioned fine. Just spent a wonderful afternoon on a glorious NW Missouri afternoon "bustin' off some caps" in various guns, including my new purchase.
 
That is impressive for 50 yards.

You might want to try the Lyman Eye Pal. It sure helps get the focus clear on pistols. One for rifles as well but I use scopes for my target shooting.

This is but an example of the type of content that is so often found on this forum in particular, and the reason I will never response to the request to send money.

... you need to talk to someone who is not a CS clerk and has no authority to change their policies etc...

That's great advice for any company you have an issue with -- and always remember:

"Managers mindlessly follow policy to the letter -- Leaders wisely change it to fit the situation."

I've used that quote many times with managers before and then asked them, "Which do you want to be?"

And most of the time, they will agree to make a "one-time exception" for me.

Can’t start putting up with shoddy goods and getting screwed. The UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) covers problems like this, no matter what the seller says. With a little friendly persuasion they would’ve made it right. One photo to a supervisor would have probably fixed this.

Too passively handled. And then … there is the principle of the thing.
 
The 1851 is my favorite and it is accurate as all get out! 126 grain eras be gone colt bullet and a 10mm case full of 3f. It is every bit accurate with 20 grains of 3f and a .380 round ball too! I got mine from the kygunco.

It’s not people are trying to but in to other’s business but Midway needs to be held accountable for Selling Crappy Goods and I know there are a lot of people on this Forum that will agree with me because now The seller of said Garbage knows they can just stand behind there shotty policies of No Return, yea right not this kid I will rock that Dam Boat the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It’s your money….
 
I got a sorry Uberti 1851 from Midway a couple of years ago. No way it was Midway’s fault nor would I have expected them to know about the issue. With the wedge bottomed out the barrel still moved back and forth quite a bit. I contacted Benelli directly and they replaced it with a perfect pistol. I did notify Midway to let them know what kind of manure Uberti was providing.
 
Just received a "brand new" Uberti 1861 Navy in the mail today. Several years ago, I purchased a 1862 Police from Midway, and it came with a corroded and pitted barrel, and obvious signs of use without cleaning. After MUCH haggling I was able to get my money back. Figured it was a "one-off", so when I saw a sale on the Uberti 1861 Navy, I decided to chance it.

Well, here is the result. The box it came in looks like it has been tossed around a warehouse for the last two decades. I opened the plastic, and there was a noticeable lack of the slimy oil that I have grown use to when opening a new revolver. As you can see in the pics, there is rust around the nipples, and also around the front sight. That is on Midway, and I was aware of their "No Return" policy on black powder guns. They got over on me, but it will be the last time, I can assure you of that. Shame on you, Midway!

Now, for the gun itself, it is not so nearly as nice as the last Pietta (1851 Navy .44 Sheriff's Model) I bought a year or so ago. The fit and finish was of much lower quality than previous Uberti's I own. I am stuck with the gun due to Midway's policy, and I will clean and polish it up. Hopefully it will shoot well. Haven't had the barrel off yet to see if it rusted or pitted, crossing my fingers. Just a shout out to let folks know my now two time experience with Midway, and the Uberti's they sell. Good for you that you refrained from stooping to the level of you-know-who.

If i were associated with Midway i would be embarrassed to have sent out something like that and then respond so badly. That said i have personally witnessed a trend toward what is virtually customer abuse without any empathy. Makes me think there's so many buyers who will just accept garbage that its in the sellers best interest (and bottom line) to just ignore complaints. Seeing this now at all levels including services and think its the tone set by the current administration.
