Hello, established gun guy here, ordered his first muzzleloading flintlock, a Traditions Kentucky flintlock pistol, arriving tomorrow. No doubt will have many questions!! Glad to be here.

Resident of NE Wisconsin (Packer country, you know), retired, have been a shooter for a while, got into guns mainly to support the Second Amendment, then found they were absolutely fascinating, historically significant, not to mention great fun. Have quite a collection of bolt-action milsurps, along with modern firearms. But fascination with guns seems to be a rabbit hole that leads further and further back in time, and I want to learn about and get into black powder firearms, not the current centerline stuff, but the historical stuff. So, I'm going to try my hand at a flintlock pistol kit. See you all around the forum.,

Welcome , you've come to the right place. A wealth of knowledge here, some can be a little cranky but it's all good. My first tip for you is you will need real black powder for your pistol, the substitutes like Pyrodex and 777 won't work properly. Carry on.

Welcome, like you I regressed in time started with an in line just for the extra deer season. Now I only have cap locks. My recent modern guns purchases are single shots

Hah hah!! You just knew this was going to be a newbie's first question. I'll spend some time today with the search function and see if I can find answers already posted. Thanks!! :thumb:

Welcome aboard from New England!

Gun arrived. I thought I had ordered a flintlock, but what arrived is a percussion cap action. Double-checking my order I see it was my mistake. Oh well, that resolves the black powder problem, no? And is probably a better starter choice, anyway. Lots of percussion cap supplies available locally. But .... you know what this means, right? I'll have to buy another pistol wih a flintlock action when this project is done, yes?? ;)

Welcome to the rabbit hole! Start a thread and document the build! Post lots of pictures, because we like pics. Easier than reading.
-Red, thinking about a pistol to go with his rifle now…

The avatar is a much-photoshopped image of my cat Rocket, no longer with me, a real attitude monster, always getting into trouble, and giving me his "who? me?" look. I miss him.
