Greetings, I have been lurking and reading and searching posts from this group for a while now, but I finally registered today. I do not own a muzzleloader, but I am an archaeologist who is studying the 18th century flintlock artifacts in the southeastern US. I am presently wrapping up a report on the Yuchi Indian village, later Fort Mount Pleasant in Effingham County, Georgia. The site was active from about 1720-1747. There we recovered numerous gun parts including many gun barrels (smoothbore), lead balls, and gunflints. I am trying to sort out the weapon classes represented from these various data. I will pose a few questions in my next posts.

We are near Atlanta, about 4 hours from your dig. Might be interested in your work. Fascinated by history.

Welcome from Valdosta. Come join us at the Brushy Creek Muzzleloaders in Lenox the 4th Sunday of every month. You can see how flintlocks really work. Bill
