By the end of the year I,ll have enough money to add one more to the list.I have two Pedersolis and they have been great.A pennsylvania 45 and a Bess.
I like long guns, and based on my experience with pedersolis I was thinking about the trade gun they have on 20 gauge(based on what they offer).
But, Idealy , I would like something smaller,like a 54 smothbore.
I could put a kit together without a problem as I own a very well equiped machine shop with just about anything you can think of.Sadly enough the one thing I have none of is time.
I visited recently a custom gun maker, and he explained to me that he only makes the Lancaster style long gun.Let me tell you that his work is second to none, but at 7500 dollars is out of the question, and 1350 for a kit? :youcrazy:
Does anybody know of a decent smothbore 54 production gun? I forgot ,has to be a flintlock!

You might contact Tip Curtis, and talk to him about a gun In the white. He seems to have alot of those, and his prices are very nice. He also may be willing to sell you the parts, doing any of the labor you can't do, at a price you will find to your liking.

Tip Curtis Frontier Shop, 4445 Jernigan Rd, Cross Plaines, Tenn. 37049: 615-654-4445. At the cost today for quality parts, expect to spend about $800 just for the parts.

I don't know any commercial gun maker selling .54 smoothbores. T/C used to offer such, but I don't believe they have them in their catalogs anymore. Check with the Fox Ridge store to see if they still have any such barrels.

Juan,
I have a custom smooth rifle in .54 caliber. It has a full, curley maple, stock with brass hardware, a Chambers flint lock and a 42" octagon to round Colerain barrel. This gun is available but I don't want to wait till the end of the year. If you think you may have an interest let me know and I can send pictures.

For a .54 caliber smoothbore Trade Gun just look at the offerings of North Star West. They make the Northwest Gun, the Early English Trade Gun and the Chief's Grade Trade Gun; all of them are available with a 28 guage bore. That's the same as .54. To take a look, key on www.northstarwest.com. Flintlock only, of course.

Another maker is Caywood, you can get a Wilson, Northwest, english fowler, and french fusils. Go to there web site to see examples and prices. I have a wilson in .62 smooth bore and an extra .50cal. rifled barrel.

Thanks,
Sure it'll be nice to see it.I am open to all options for now.At the end is a fine balance between $$$, looks and quality.

You might also want to have a talk with Bobby Christian, a member here, who would make you a fine 54 smoothbore at a reasonable price and very good workmanship. Good smoke, Ron in FL
