 well they need talkin about also rite? :hmm:

i just purchased a couple barrels and when i recieved them i naturally cleaned and took em out to shoot em. good thing i took my other rifle with my no 11 nipple in the barrel as the nipples in the new barrels were just a smidge larger,,,wouldnt take the no 11 cap. also they are longer by a bunch,,,maybe 1/8 inch or so.

question is,,,are these musket nipples or something else?

what do the no 11 mag caps take for a nipple?

ive heard of hot shot nipples but was under the impression that they too the no 11 as well... correct? :idunno:

The "Hot Shot" nipples I have had take the standard #11 cap. I have conversion nipples for my Renegade that take a musket cap but they are definitely larger than a #11.

Could they be Italian nipples or possibly made for a #10 cap?

Sounds like, whomever ya got the barrels from, might have put the wrong nipples on.
Colt Walker reproductions have a larger than normal nipple. Other pistol nips are short.
Otherwise most rifle nipples are a standard size, the musket cap nipple is WAY big.

How about more info on the barrels? What or where did they come from and what did you put them on to shoot them. I have seen quite a difference in length on various nipples from different makers. And if they were used, the fit of the #11 cap may be due to mushrooming of the nipples over time.

barrels are t/c renegade in 50 and 54. shooting them on a renegade platform but the 54 will prolly be on my hawkin platform which is also a t/c that started life as an early kit gun .

the nipples found on then are new in shape and not peened. they are longer and just enough bigger in dia that my cci no 11 caps dont fit over them at all. :idunno:

I suggest you try Remington No. 10's (they're bigger than CCI No. 11's), or turn down the OEM nipples using an emery board and a drill motor.

I'd suggest strongly that yo turn down the nipples, very litle, and stay with the #11's. #10's are normally smaller and used on pistols.

I'm sure they are musket nipples. I'd throw them away and get some new T/C nipples.

Yep, so simple just to buy buy some new T/C nipples. They are very common and every gun shop I've seen has them hanging on a hook over in their muzzleloader accessories section. Bill
