Didn't even know there were titanium nipples...I've used stainless steel Hot Shot nipples ever since they became available...can't imagine a nipple being any better than that one
:m2c:

:hmm:
Titanium is certainly possible, but I've no idea who make them.

I've used the standard stainless steel 1/4x28 nipples for many years since the 70's with excellent results.

I made a few for myself out of some really tough stainless steel....ruined 2 hacksaw blades, 2 threading tools and 1 drill making it. Approx. 500 shots later it still looks brand new. I guess titanium would be better, but it's very expensive and almost impossible to work with. Don't know anyone who makes them as SS seems to work just fine and it's a lot cheaper. On the other hand, my 100 yr. old grandmother has a titanium hip. I'll see if the undertaker wants to make a deal when the time comes.

I am not aware of any Titanium nipples, but I wouldn't be a bit suprised if they were being sold to the In-Line folks.

Titanium in it's alloy form is a very strong, very light material. It is also sensitive to some common things (anything with chlorine in it) and is Very Expensive.

In jet engines, it is used for the compressor section because of two things: It is LIGHT WEIGHT and remains relatively strong at elevated temperatures. It is used instead of Stainless only because of it's light weight. If weight is not an issue in the engines design, it is replaced with stainless steel.)

In the case of a nipple, the idea of saving weight by using Titanium is laughable.

A large number of people seem to think that Titanium is some sort of wonder material that will do everything from improving your golf game to drilling holes, while actually it won't do a dam thing for your bad golf stroke and the Hyped Drills are not made out of Titanium, they are made out of the same high speed steel as the other drills in the store. They are coated with a type of Titanium Nitride that is harder than hell so they do wear well.

If I could think of the one thing Titanium does best it is the word "SELL".
The advertizing people use the word to Hype everything they can right down to the paint color of a car. (I know one company that called their paint color Titanium. It was just a dark gray metal flake but the ad guys had a field day with it.)

IMO, if you have a chanch to spend extra money for Titanium Nipples, save yourself some money and buy a good Brand name Stainless Steel nipple. You'll be way ahead.

I never seen one of them Titanium nipples, but that does not mean they are not made. Like Roundball and many others I am sure, I use the stainless steel hot shot nipple. I have a hard time wearing one of them out. They really seem to take a beating....
