I have been thinking about attending an event at Friendship In. What I have been wondering about is to attend, to you have to be in "period" correct clothing?? Thought it might be fun to see all the venders and look at the stuff for sale. Do not want to show up and find myself out of place because I do not have period correct clothing.

I have been to the Spring National shoots for the last few years. They are a lot of fun. All the old timers say they are much smaller now than they were back in the 60s and 70s.

Regards, Dave

I went to the spring 04 shoot and most of the people there were not dressed in period clothes.

Shooting on the main range does not require primitive dress. Shooting on the "primitive range" requires PC clothing of a sort.

The primitive range is an open air "spot" for the rondy shooters to burn some powder. Not impressive in the slightest.

The Walter Cline range is a 1/2 mile long overhead cover facility with pistol, offhand, bench, chunk and shilouette stations. No PC garb is required. You will be right at home in anything except a "Sunday suit" and you could probably get away with the suit coat and overalls on the chumk range.

No one is out of place at Friendship!

With your MNLRA membership card you get free entry to both modern and primitive areas, where you can shop till you drop, literally! It is a man shoppers' paridise. Getz, Davis, Chambers, Pecontica River, Tip Curtis brings a tractor trailor, Muzzle Loader Builders Supply enpties their store for the shoot booth.

Shooting requires registration as a shooter, buying approved targets, weapon inspection for your class...the usual.

NMLRA regulations are very stringent in many of the classes. You need a rule book. Sights, stock shapes, weights are all regulated, but there are so many classes one can always find a place to fit in. NMLRA has a web sight where you can order rule book, targets, accessories....

They are also very safty conscious. When, where, how you load, muzzle up and down range at all times, strict following of range commands.

Get the book and study up on their range rules (often diferent than local clubs) and don't worry about the clothes. You'll see old geezers in overalls, snipers in leather shooting jackets and young girls in cut off shorts and tee shirts.

Have been there the last two spring and fall shoots. On the primitive side it is great. If you have any questions they are answered quickly and friendly. Get a rules book and come out and have some fun. The spring shoot to me is the best time to go.

Clothing of circa 2007 will be fine. You'll have a great time.

Where do you live? I'm sure several of us would be glad to meet you there and show you around. And around. And around. There's really a lot to see and do.

You can go thru your money real quick shopping there, but boy it sure is fun spending the day taking everything in. I'm heading down this weekend for the blanket shoot. I'll probably finish at the bottom but it is a lot of fun!

Here's a couple of pics that might help with what to expect at the Spring Nationals. Plenty of vending and plenty of modern clothing.

Come on down and shoot. If you aren't a member of the NMLRA you will need to join and register to shoot.

Camping on the Primitive side is $20 per night per person. Considering that we have flush toilets and showers that ain't all bad.

I will be there for the Spring shoot too. I will either be staying in one of the cabins at the top of the hill, or in a tent. The boys on the porch at the top of the hill will know where I am camped. Look me up, I'll introduce you around.

Many Klatch

I've been going there for 27 years. Great fun. all the shooting you can stand.
I've got a booth on commericial row, stop by and introduce yourself.
I split a double booth with Getz Barrel Co. On one side of us is Jim Chambers and the other side is L&R locks. Across the aisle is Mark Silver and Homer Dangler.

Thanks to everyone for the information. Am looking at the Spring shoot. If you are going mainly for the venders, is it best to be there when it starts or doesn't it matter?? What is the camping like? Our camping gear is PC for 2007. I have an old Army buddy down in KY and am thinking of stopping on the way to visit the spring shoot. How much time do I need to set aside for seeing all the venders, sights, and etc??

Hello Rat Trapper,

Kid in a candy store is what it is like.

You can easily spend the whole day looking talking and of course buying all the things anyone could ever need. I attended the Fall shoot and it was pretty good but they tell me the Spring shoot is even larger with more in the way of venders and shooters as well.

The only thing I can add is that perhaps you can come on the first days of the shoot since I noticed that after a few days that some of the venders had already left and gone home.

You will have a terrific time though no matter what you do there or when you go.

Rabbit03,you beat me to it.You sure are right about the vendors leaving. If a person wants to buy something they had better buy it the first few days of the shoot, because a lot of the vendors leave by wed.or thur.
Rat Trapper, camping at Friendship runs from RV's to lean-tos.The only place you have to have a PC camp is in the primitive area.Come on down camp, shoot, and enjoy.YMHOS,Wayne.
