What are the differences?

No. 10 is for pistol and No. 11 for rifle? Are they different size, slightly?

Does one burn hotter than the other?

Is it typical to convert all nipples to use 1 size cap for both pistol and rifle?

Any info appreciated.

It's a size thing.
Not only is a nipple designed for one size or the other, the hammer is designed for a certain size nipple.
So the idea of trying to "convert" a rifle or revolver to use the same as the other could result in improper hammer strikes.

Tough part is there really isn't a standard that all cap makers follow beyond their 10 is smaller than their 11.
While Remington is very close to CCI they are not exactly the same.
Many folks will slightly modify a nipple with a file or sandpaper to accept their prefered cap.

As they say "Size matters" . #10s are smaller than #11. But each manufacturer will make their caps a couple of thousands different than another. Who knows why , they just do. :idunno:

A while back Mykeal posted a chart with measurements of various caps.

Remington #10s were the same diameter (maybe slightly bigger) than Remington #11s. The big difference was in the length. A longer cap will seat further on the nipple, giving a tighter fit (since the nipple is tapered).

Yep, my experience with Track/Teso nipples for revolvers:

-CCI #11s are too small and won't go on
-Remington #10s will fit fine
-Remington #11s will fit fine
-Winchester #11s are too small
