I was so used to cottontails back in Georgia that it was a surprise to find they are protected up here in the great white North. Plenty of snowshoe hare, however.

well they are fair game here as far as i know, not that ive snared rabbit in a long time. just spoke to mom about maybe raising some rabbit. it would be easier to just raise em wouldnt it.

I got me my rabbit at last.
At the grand old distance of 7yds!
It was in a ditch I approached and me having my face covered it probably thought I was one of the heifer's ranging these fields.
I didn't hang around and discharged the fusil.

Next I loaded up again and went looking for a second on the way back. We never did see another but did happen on a hare fast asleep in a hole under some gorse.

It eventually scooted off so I decided on an impromptu pattern test at 25 paces.

So all in all a good hunt. I'm also glad I got back when I did. A storm came over and we would of been drenched!
I've cleaned the gun. Not done the patent breech thing, never do.
I like the new main spring. Seems better than the original one and it certainly is finished better! Hopefully it will see me out!!
It was good to burn the black powder again. I've missed it.

With the Ped Indian Trade Musket no less! Good lad!

I like the way youse guys hunt wearing a sport coat. It looks very........er.......sportsmanlike. And it has leather elbow patches, too! You would never see someone hunting over here wearing that!american camo.
It's usually all I hunt in too. I've never given in to typical American camo.

Yes sir.
Its a little big at .629" and quite formidable with 1&1/4oz or more down there.
Yep, the Ped is no 20 guage. It is a 19 guage/.630 nominal. A fine flinter. Capable of both buck and rabbit/grouse/pheasant/elk/moose/squirrel/groundhog/dove/pigeon/turkey/etc.

the first time i trapped a rabbit like that was when i was 10 years old so yup that one is old as methusela.

when you can trap a rabbit while a squatch is watching, and hold the rabbit up to the squatch like an offering and,it didnt even know you could see it. if you get a smile it may not be a good one, a show of teeth is a serious warning. but yeah ive nabbed rabbit its easy , easier than craw dads with bacon, yeah took bacon into the woods around 10 as well.
WTF????

Always has box traps in the winter. I liked setting in the barn loft after a snow and watch the rabbits come into the lot. When it was cold after a snow rabbits would set tight. You had to look but seeing them setting was a nice reward.

smiles it just does not snow here much or often. maybe 3or 4 years out of the last 40 its snowed here near dallas texas, but it does get pretty icey.

You don't shoot the hares ? That's bloody good spotting by the way

smiles did you know that you can harvest a rabbit without a gun at all.
you see the rabbit, chase the rabbit , it will run in a circle on the same circle every time.
locate a spot on that circle where the rabit while running will funnel itself to a chokepoint.
dig a hole 3 rft deep there moving the dirt to funnel the rabbit better, once hole is made place twigs and thin sticks across the hole(small enough that the rabbit will break the twigs and sticks)
place leaves over the twigs, sprinkle dirt over the leaves and find and toss light debris over the leaves and dirt.
look at your invention , it should not appear to be a hole at all.
now look at that rabbit, chase that rabbit, it will run... straight into the hole you just made and it wont be able to get out.
if you wanna be certain placepokey sharp sticks in the hole at the top facing downward at an angle so the rabbit goes in easy but cant come out easy.
now you got free rabbit without using your gun. you are welcome.
This is the most hilarious, round about way of getting a rabbit i reckon I've ever read lol. Awesome ! 😅😅😅
