Deer season is about to open...how many North Carolina boys are going after them with a Flintlock?

I'm starting a month from today with a .62cal GM Flint smoothbore barrel in a Hawken stock, that Ed Rayl added rifling to...

Bill, now that the summer's humidity is passed, I'm back to my flinters...the T/C Hawken in perc is back on the rack...good luck in your hunt...ours is on now, and I've been too busy to get out...Harry

I can't start til Nov 3rd but it's been too dad-blamed hot anyway! The current cold front is heaven sent and maybe we won't back slide much any more.

Going to the range at first light, play with some smoothbore loads in the .54/.28ga...going to see how much pattern distance I can get for a squirrel size target with #5s.

Let us know when you tag one!

I have a femur on the mend but I'm with yall in mind and spirit.

I'll probably fill a doe tag here with my capper, going after horns in Va. or W.Va. with my '06 at relatives places.

A passel of flintlock shooters will be gathering at the end of this month at the Lafayette Long Rifles Club range to swap hunting stories at the "Cold Toes" Rendezvous on the 25-27th. Hope y'all can come. We have matches for cap & flint rifle, and flint smoothbore. The Saturday night sit-down supper is delicious. Phil from Asheboro is the man to beat with a flint smoothbore I may have sold him.

Has anyone ever used the Foothills Public Shooting Complex of Cleveland County? If so, is it muzzleloader and accessible friendly? What was your experience and impressions?

Contact them at their Facebook page and ask the question.

Northwest of you in the Asheville area is the French Broad Rifles Muzzleloading Gun Club, and they have get-togethers every month.

I shoot there regularly. I have only seen one muzzle loading shooter there and he was managing OK. However, it has a concrete base, which is to be expected, so bring something to pad the butt while loading. They have 50 yard ranges for pistols and rifles and out to 250 yards for rifle. The rifle ranges are heavily "baffled" to control sound and you have to shoot through a "box" so don't know how comfortable that will be for someone shooting a muzzle loader.

It is a nice facility and inexpensive.
