Eoin & Jim I feel for you guys seams they make stupid laws up every where :youcrazy:. It would be great if they would see their mistakes but it will take awhile and it would probably take for ever to change the law's. Curious Do they have restricions on knives and bows and arrows with razor tip hunting heads ?

do the police carry guns?:peace: :) :hmm:

Snake Eyes,
Yes they do; .38 revolvers I think. :hmm:
But whenever one is shot at a crim, there is a HUGE media driven public outcry; you know, civil liberties, protect the crims and F*** the victims!

I know this is way OT, but remember a few years ago in England when 2 teen boys took a younger child from a shopping centre, then beat his head in with a rock until he died? Well I remember the NEWS bulletins at the time (I will never forget) reporting that when the teens had been apprehended, they were surrounded by COUNSELORS!!!!!!!!! :curse:

Where were the F****** counselors for the victims FAMILY?!!!!!:curse:
Jim.
PS sorry for :yakyak:

And they didn't ban ROCKS!!! For shame, for shame!!!

I was surprised when I saw the article last night. The belgium design was so close to the english north west pattern. I always thought the northwest pattern was later, post revolution. This may open a can of worms but, if you change the trigger guard of a standard north west gun. A person could use it for French and Indian war era. And have an original to historically document it. :hmm:M

The NWTG has been around for a long time. North West Trade Gun has become almost a generic term for any smoothbore with a flat butt. It's like saying "Hawken" or "Derringer" a lot of the time. That type of gun was made not only in England but in Belgium and here in the states starting around the turn of the 19th century by folks like Henry, Lehman, Deringer and others. A good book to get a hold of is The Northwest Gun by Charles Hanson. You can order them from the Museum of the Fur Trade.

The english (NW) trade gun basically came from the early Brown Bess and doglocks. It was a cheap but hardy gun that was easily obtained initially (in the early 1700's) through the NW Company and HBC for 10-12 beaver pelts, depending on what options you wanted. In their heyday, they still only went for at most 20-24 pelts, unless of course you traded with the Cree down on the Missouri, who traded for them in Canada for 15 pelts from the HBC then resold them to other Indians for 50-55 pelts a piece. HBC eventually decided to move further south almost exclusively based on the idea of cutting the Cree out of this racket.

Don't know if that helps, but I thought it was interesting and my coffee just kicked in so I'm rambling a bit.

I think if you look very closely you will need to change more than just the tg to get a post 1800 NW gun to pass as F&I period, locks, furniture attatchment methods and several subtle changes seperate the these guns from different time periods, and the first mention of "triggerguards larger than normal" was in 1740, as with ant type of guns it takes a great deal of reasearch to sort out the little differences over a long period of manufacture.

LHunter,
I think it only a matter of time before a moderator LOCKS this thread, but I am reasonably sure that in the last 12 months, the govt has made a proposal to do "something" about bows & arrows, but I can't recall what exactly.

It is illegal to carry a knife, as it is considered "carrying a concealed weapon". Jack, flick etc knives are illegal.

Now get ready for this: It is illegal to own a throwing-axe (tomahawk), but it is legal to own (and throw) a camp-axe (tomahawk)!!!! :youcrazy: :youcrazy: How do you like them apples!

I have no knowledge about razor tip hunting heads, but I'm reasonably sure that if a greeny or polly heard of them they would ban them 'cos they sound dangerous!
Jim.
:redthumb:

So, are boomarangs next on their list of illegal weapons. GIVE ME A BREAK. Something needs to be done about things like this. The whole world is going to h*** in a handbasket.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO AND NO!!!

Boomarangs are used (or were used) by indigenous Australians (PC) (Aborigines for non-PC); if the govt decided to BAN these there would be a public outcry in that it is their right to use these, and the govt would no way do anything against these "disadvantaged people" (now, how nice & PC is that?).
Jim.
PS:imo: there is nothing we can do, short of an armed uprising, and who is going to do that?

" there is nothing we can do, short of an armed uprising, and who is going to do that? "
Maybe the PEOPLE. You know if enough of any group cause enough of a Public Outcry, things can be changed. It is No more the right of the Aboriginies (sp) to carry boomarangs than for the rest of you to cary guns.

I have been told that our Constitution only provides 2 rights; the first is to choose religion without persecution and I can't remember the second, but it most certainly isn't the right to own firearms!
Put simply, in Aus, firearm owners are detested by govts, unless they are not in power, then they will talk & listen to firearm groups, until they get into power, then they don't want to know you!
In the mid '90s the Aus govt took semi-auto (self-loading) rifles & shotties, and pump action shotties (but NOT pump action rifles) from legit firearm owners; in 2003 they took a huge number of handguns from legit firearm owners; It is only a matter of time before the govt takes our remaining firearms from us; all we can do is enjoy it while we can!
:imo: based on successive govt's previous track records, I believe that they have taken the appropriate planning process to take all our firearms from us, and they are just waiting for the right excuse/reason to do so!
Jim.

Maybe it is time for a new form of Government. You know, a Govenment Of the People, By the People, And For the People. All people, no matter what the Govenment believes, have the basic right of Self Defense.

We do have the right to self defense and it's legal to use sufficient force to over come the attacker. We are only restricted in the means of self defence when the attacker has a gun. But if attacked in that way and we manage to open the gun cabinet and then the seperate ammo storage, then it would be OK to use a firearm for self defense.

See? simple ain't it.

Eoin.

Yep, it sure is simple. Hard to argue with the logic of the SIMPLETONS in office. Bet your prime minister or whatever he is called in Australia has a gun beside his bed that is laoaed, that or armed security guards.

TWEEEEET!
