Got this one done a month or two ago and never got the pictures posted. I thought some of you might enjoy seeing it.

Colerain 38" .54 oct/rnd barrel. Chambers early Ketland lock. Chambers trigger guard and buttplate. Home made sideplate and pipes. Curly maple stock. Antiqued finish. Any questions, feel free to ask.
I'm going to post a link to my photobucket site as the pictures are higher quality there.

Thanks for the pix. Sweet color. Like the carving behind the cheekpiece and the tang carving too. The trailing incised carving around the entry thimble reminds me of some stuff from eastern PA- #42, some Lehigh guns. I like the way you put the different elements together.

That's a very nice gun,Mike and one that I would be very happy to own but I have to ask one question. Is the owner either from Arkansas or a graduate of the University of Arknsas?I just had to ask.

Mike, that's a beauty. A real work of art. Thanks for the link to the other pics.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I hope you don't mind the pictures I post, but I know I sure like looking at guns and assume you fellas do too. If I would have had access to pictures of what the full time guys were building 15 or 20 years ago it sure would have sped things along for me, I hope my pictures will do the same service for some of you.
Tom Patton.....There's got to be a smart a$$ in every crowd.... :rotf: :blah: :winking: razorbacks.....you're luck I even knew what you were talking about. :winking:

You guys probably notice I've been exploring antiqueing and coloring a bit more, what do you think?

Mike - I think your antiqueing looks great. If you don't mind a suggestion from a comparative neophyte, you could rub some "dirt" into the nooks and crannies, like the edges of the inletting, the hard-to-clean areas like the back of the trigger where it goes into the plate, that sort of thing. Lots of things would work for that, I suppose, like beeswax & soot. You might want to check out "Weather System" (marketed to model railroaders) by Bragdon Enterprises in Georgetown CA. They have a plethora of colors, from rust to verdigris to soot. Their trick is it's mixed with the adhesive used in dry transfer lettering; rub it in and it tends to stay.

Thanks for posting the photos :hatsoff:

Mike,
Nice looking rifle. IMHO the antique finish is great! I'm sure it's not easy to do correctly. And I finally saw the hog.

Now THAT's a nice looking gun.
My complaments Mike.
Truely masterful. :hatsoff:

Mike
I really like what your doing wih the antique finish.
I also noted that you opted for the sawed flint on this one. Probably doesn't spark very well though. :rotf:
Nice work!
