Wowser, I've been looking for some #11 caps but not having any luck. Anyone happen to know where they can be had?

They seem to be in and out of stock almost everywhere at any given moment. I drove about 60 miles for my last batch of 'em. Just keep checking sporting goods stores and department stores like Fleet Farm. Eventually, somebody will get some in stock. If you have to order online, try to order with a black powder order as the hazmat fees will kill you. Panics and shortages are facts of life these days, and will be for some time to come I think.

Nothing around this neck of the woods for sure.

Yes, finding caps is problematic, and expensive when you do actually find them. I have a bunch on hand, but started making my own from .22 LR cartridges just for the sake of experience. You only need to pull the bullet, dump the powder, cut the case to appropriate length with side cutters and then open the crimped end of the "cap". Yes it takes time. You wanna' shoot, or not? You can also use Ramset cartridges.........

My #11 nipples have been replaced with musket nipples.

The Kentucky drums are now 1/4-28.

Cap shortage eliminated.

I recently procured some from a scalper on GunBroker, at about 3x the normal price.

I ended up getting some Mag-Spark adaptors for shotgun primers, blasphemy, I know, but 209's can be had at a reasonable price, and can actually be found here.

I have a different nipple system for 209's on one ML, but they too, are getting difficult to come by.

So will a musket cap nipple fit on most caplocks?

EDIT:

I see they are available for some ML. So this may be an option.
If the threads match. Make sure the threads of the nipple match the threads in the nipple seat. Then you have to make sure the nose of the hammer can clear the capped nipple to properly strike the musket cap. Sometimes it is better to spend more time searching for #11 caps. Sometimes it is better to get a properly sized musket nipple to have a back up firing system. Of course, one could get a flintlock. But that's not always a reasonable solution either.

In this environment you’re going to have to be very proactive. Find several legitimate online sources and check them daily. Place your order as soon as “In Stock” is shown. And, as said, you can purchase a kit to make your own. Do your research and take your time if you go that route.

I found one site that has them listed for TC rifles, but as per the new norm, they are out of stock. There are quite a few for Traditions, and I think I even saw one for CVA.
