They have them in vermont at local archery shop but I won't spend 15.00 dollars a tin. However if I want caps which I will eventually need now might be the best time to get them considering their in-stock.

My loving wife got me Treso nipples for my 1860 Pietta as a Christmas present but was confused when I didn't immediately go out and shoot it.
I explained about now needing #11 caps and began my search. Remington website has a nice feature where you can search for local dealers (supposedly) carrying their caps. Then checked their websites till I finally struck gold at the Scheels in Overland Park KS ( about 80 miles away) They had CCI (ok, maybe silver as I understand Remingtins are the gold standard) #11 for $9.95 so I bought 5 online and have 10 days to pick up. When I suggested to my wife that we should visit her mother (who lives just North of Overland Park) she was immediately suspicious until I mentioned we could also drop by Scheels and get my needed caps. Never could fool her.
Anyway, my order was ready at customer service but I also checked and the racks were empty. I'm thinking these times require semper vigilantes.

Just a question in line with the caps, does anyone know what the HAZ/MAT fee is for and where that money goes or what it's used for?

Gunny summed it up perfectly earlier. I believe post #75. Typical “Unfunded mandates” from the swamp overlords. “You must follow these new regulations, but you must implement them on your dime”..

Yes, but where does the $ go and what's it used for. I get 'the why', it's the where and for what end. It can't be that the labels cost this much. That money has to funnel somewhere. I get government personnel costs and all that but it's kinda a bite in the butt when a person sees so much money being used against the very industry that the money came from. That's my concern.

They were not using the large modern 209 type primer. The early shotshell primers were about the size of a large rifle or pistol primer. The larger 209 type primer didn't come about until much later. Here are some photos of late 1800s brass and paper shotshell primers.

It's close enough for the fantasy world that exists inside my head.....if using a 209 primer adapter on my Italian repro of a Confederate Rifle-Musket that was made in 2020 makes me feel good then whatever 😀

It's kinda sorta HC just like most repros

Go for it, whatever works for you. You could get very ingenious and hide a power supply in the patch box and fire it electronically with an igniter.

What % of the shooting world is actually consuming large amounts of percussion caps?

Also the European and British market is a hungry market for caps because the gun laws make muzzleloading and organized matches for these weapons very popular

Are we just getting "hobby centric" and are some of us becoming the Veruca Salt "I want it NOW!!" people who are snatching up caps everywhere just to do it?

I remember when you couldn't find a single round of .22 LR anywhere . Now I walk by a shelf full of Bucket O'Bullets .22 on my way to feverishly claw through the peg board at Dunham's to get my hands on a tin of CCI #11. 3 years ago I probably walked by peg boards full of caps to try to snatch up the last 50 round box of Thunderbolt .22......its all relative and a lot of this is just our own psychological response to kind of get tunnel vision for what we need at this moment

Today I was going to go shooting but I decided to just get up late and go for a jog before work. Sometimes it's good to take a little step back.

Also, musket caps were murcuric and corrosive back then, and a lot hotter. There is no way to be 100% HC unless you use an original paper cartridge and a cap, to fire an original Rifle-Musket

We're all basically just LARPing to one extent or another here when you get down to it

How dare you! Don't you even act like it is not a big deal that caps aren't over flowing off the shelves everywhere! :D

Wow, I thank you much for posting that! Just ordered up 5 tins. That should get me shooting for a bit. :thumb: Now to see if it actually goes through as it seems a bit unrealistic compared to all the other places I've visited looking for caps.
Just ordered 4 tins myself. Still going to use the homemade. These are back-ups, and for hunting.
