England.
It's pheasant opener over here again and I had late afternoon success.
I have over the fast few years taken my first roosters with frontstuffers and I managed it again this year.
The shot was about 25yds, the bird flying left to right. 1&1/4oz of English #6.

A smart rooster and I admire not only these birds but all birds. We have had torrential rains and everything is soaked.
How these birds roost in it all I don't know. The Lord sure knows how to make stuff!
The gun by the way was first fired on last Friday. It has not been cleaned and I ain't stressed at all about it.

I used to travel to Portsmouth a lot and on the ride from Heathrow to Portsmouth I would see hundreds of pheasants. You are lucky to have them available to hunt. Cooked on the grill they are fantastic. When I was a young fella living in Minnesota we used to hunt them and they were plentiful. After work and still in my suit I would put on camo coveralls and hunt the back roads around work and generally get my limit before dark. Fantastic table fare. :thumbs up:

Western KS, in my youth, pheasants in abundance! Never see them where I now live since the game farm a mile away closed. Shame that the birds didn't stick and breed. White wine and Dijon, yes.
In my youth, my hunting pal either shot the birds just off the muzzle or at them as they met the horizon. "Mess or miss Danny".

Pheasants used to be abundant in Iowa 45-50 years ago, but farming practices have changed, which I believe has led to drastically reduced numbers of birds. Our DNR also continues to allow what I feel is an excessively long season. Pushing birds out of cover during our harsh winters, even without shooting them, limits the survival rate of pheasants here. I haven't shot one in years for these reasons.

Congrats on the beautiful bird, Brit, as well as the beautiful gun!

Where is jess!? You did not go without her.....

I shot many in my teens and 20's but haven't hunted them for several years now (modern firearm). Access along with a much smaller population has soured me on getting out and trying to hunt them.
That's funny about Jess, its tough to shoot them when the dog is hunting them for themselves rather than for you. I used to hunt with a fabulous German Shorthair that you had to take to one of your not so good spots first and let her run off some stink, otherwise she would do the same. After she ran off some initial energy she would stay in range...or at least come back when on scent but commanded to do so...and was a pleasure to watch. Soft mouth and would hold point until the bird simply wouldn't sit anymore or I walked up and flushed it.
Have you tried turning Jess out to wear off some steam a bit first? Sure worked with that German Shorthair.

Jess usually behaves after some body language and gesturing from me!
For a rescued dog she don't do to bad and I don't expect to much from her.

Glad its hunting season again, enjoy your hunting pics and post and of course Jess.

Nice bird with a front stuffer, way to go.

30coupe the hunting season length has about zero with why we don’t have as many pheasants in Iowa as we use to.
Studies by the DNR have said this by looking at northern Iowa county’s compared to southern Minnesota, Minnesota has even closed there season and have had shorter seasons and it had no effect on pheasant populations.

For what it’s worth I have shot a Pheasant in Iowa and my Dog retrieved it from Minnesota.
