Thinking ahead after the holidays...wondering if anybody knows of any contacts / locations with a lot of hogs (preferably in North Carolina) that would have some good off season weekend hunting opportunities using muzzleloaders...

RB,
This guy is in Tennessee but is a good spot to go. http://www.caryonah.com/

If you search the web you'll see that there isn't a lot of hog hunting in NC. There are a few places but you really need to go to GA or southern SC for a lot of opportunities. You can hunt them in PA if you don't mind shooting them inside a small fenced compound. Not hunting just shooting in my opinion.

Go to www.stickbow.com and link to the Bowsite there is a hog hunting forum there.

South Carolina DNR lists a lot of areas along the PeeDee river as having hogs. You would need to correspond with them as to special hunting arrangements.

If I can get something lined up, it'll probably be in/around central North Carolina, within reasonable R/T driving distance, etc.

Once I start considering out of state the cost skyrockets, to say nothing of knowing where the hogs are and I'm not into 'guided hunts'...just trying to see if I can hook up something in NC for a chance to go after one with a Flintlock...been talking with other hunters and with our NC-WRC...learned a lot about hog hunting compared to knowing nothing a couple months ago.

I hunted Fort Stewart last year. It is just outside Savannah in Georgia. GA offers a 5.00 a day daily license for non-residents and it costs $40 to hunt the base. Over 800,000 acres of property to hunt. Worth the trip if you can get someone to go with you. The base has a campground too that is cheap. It took me 10 hours from MD.

I used to hunt Ft. Stewart back in the early 60's when it first opened to the public. It had wild cows in there back then and you could shoot them if you ever saw anything but their tracks. It was $2.00 a day to hunt or $10.00 a yr.

I didn't see any cows but saw, hogs, lots of deer, gators, rattlers, bobcats, lots of turkeys and the occasional tank or armoured personnel carrier. And the price went up.

Lots of diamondbacks in there..my dad and his buddy who was a helecopter pilot stationed there in 59 were hunting and Harold (dad's buddy) got bit by a big 6' diamondback. Dad cut his leg and sucked the blood out, etc. (the old method) and got him to hospital. Even though my dad had terrible teeth back then all ended well.

roundball...I have seen a newspaper article about hog hunting in NC....I think I saved it because I was interested in checking into....I'll try to find when I go home from work....I do remember it was between Raleigh and Wilmington....which is in your area of the state...

roundball...I found them on the net...Hog hunting is in Sampson Co...they are called Buffalo Creek Outfitters...number is 800-868-6265...I did call and they still offer hog hunting...price went from $350 to $400 a day...Let us know if they are any good...

Great...I'd like to plan on a 3 day hunt so if you'll just send me a MO for about $1500 to cover that + the motel/meals, I'll pay for my own gas!
