I should have gone with a saw handle style dueling pistol. I don't like their looks but hey, they weren't created for aesthetic appeal.

Still can. Pedersoli`s Cook shoots like a modern pistol and works great when properly tuned. If it fit the rules of my traditional matches it would be a top choice for me, but I prefer the "looks" of Gold over looks of guns...nsp

the saw handles were traditional. more likly to be seen in New England than the south. also traditional in parts of Europe. wonder what it is that disqualifies it?

Just NMLRA and NRA rules for traditional matches. You can shoot Saw Handel types in the non-traditional matches and local matches that have their own rules...nsp

I if I am having a bad day and not finding consistency I like to bench for a few shots to get my head straight and see what the gun is actually doing so that I can go back to focusing on the things I need to do and not worry that something is wrong with the gun.
It’s helpful to have someone who knows how to shoot watch you shoot. Critical observation is almost vital for a beginner.

No matter how long we have been shooting competition, bad days can happen due to fatigue, too much stimulant, etc.
Often a break is all it takes but no downside to having an observer watch .

Not a beginner.. last time someone told me I was doing it all wrong I placed higher than they did.. been doing it wrong for 55 years or so. My biggest problem is my eyesight. Hard for me to focus my eyes if I am tired. My eye drifts and I shoot six inches to the right @25 yrds.
