As I mentioned in my intro post, I was jumping in to this hobby with a Jaeger styled 62 cal smoothbore kit. I received it today. Let's just say that the USPS did not handle this package with any care whatsoever! The box was "Squishy" and creased. With some trepidation I opened it and my worst fears were realized... This "was" a CM4 stock.

Ray at Sitting Fox said, "Box it all up and send it back!" He'll refund my shipping and file a claim. Haven't worked out a replacement as of yet, but I'll let you know. Man! I was really looking forward to working on this thing, and then USING it. I already bought all the stuff! If I had a beer I'd cry in to it...
 
Fed-X is just as bad. They tossed my package under my mailbox out in the rain instead of driving up the driveway to the house to deliver it. A custom $200 Palm Leaf hat got ruined. I can name two other boo boos too.
I have been tempted to order a muzzy rifle by mail several times but thinking of what might happen, I just can't bring myself to do it.
 
Shippers need to take into account how packages are handled. I once had someone send a mirror and a few other items in a box with only some loosely balled newspaper as packing. When it arrived, I had several smaller mirrors.
Reminds me of the time I asked my dad for some more chips. I still had a few on my plate, so he reached over, smashed them with his hand, and said "there, now you have more of them."
 
About 20 years ago I ordered a serjeant's carbine from Canada. The lock was shipped in a different box, and showed up on time. After 17 days delay, and a serious talk with the local postmaster, plus a call to the Postal Inspection Service, the box showed up, with a huge mark and the musket snapped at the wrist as well as the reinforcing wood being snapped. The Canadian Postal Service started a rather in depth investigation, while the USPS said, "It was like that when we got it". The USPS really didn't like it when I took the box with the "mark", which was blackening on the carboard, and leaned the box against the concrete wall on the USPS loading dock and showed how the mark exactly lined up with the black rubber guards on the rear bumper of a USPS postal delivery truck, but the Canadian vehicles, being quite different, would not line up...., (a photo to the Canadian Postal Inspectors was sent) So... one of the local letter carries had backed into it at my local post office, and then had tried to hide it. It was replaced, but I missed an event as I didn't have a musket....

Saving money (time to pack and cash for supplies) on packaging must be worth the risk of things getting destroyed in shipping, otherwise it wouldn't be packaged that way.
 
Sorry that happened.

All things need to be packaged as if they will be run over or thrown to the ground because, they probably will. I believe there are many post office people who deliberately destroy packages, particularly guns.

I am surprised the vendor packs like that, they should know better. I would make a new box wood like Kibler does. Send your busted up gun back in that box to be used later for return shipping.

Check to see if the barrel is bent.

There may be a silver lining....ask for the replacement to be made with no lock inlet. This may save you more disappointment. Never get a precarve with the lock pre-inlet.
