I shot my GPR the other day and had a few problems with the hammer and flints. The hammer was angled to far forward and had to adjust it.The flint was hitting the pan.Was getting some hangfires and flash in the pan.So after doing some more work to the hammer, drilling out the liner and getting some pointers from Roundball, I went back out today and got this thing SMOKIN!Now this thing goes click BANG!Just as fast as my cap guns.Didnt go out to sight it in,went just to see if the work I did to it would make it fire right.I can see I'm gonna be makin alot of patches and balls for this rifle.I also have a question. What do you use a pick for?Is it for clearing the hole after you fire? This is the funnest thing I have ever shot.Im glad I found this place. Thanks for getting me HOOKED!

Crowhop The one book I read said you are supose to load with pick in hole. This what I usually do. I made my first one out of copper wire and piece of ramrod scrap,I hang mine off trigger guard. Dilly

Congratulations Crowhop, my GPR flinter was my first flinter that I really liked and I have a few thousand rb's through it. Your going to find that GPR's are very accurate with both light and heavy charges. I replaced my touch hole liner with a RCM type that installs with a allen wrench. I never had to clean my touch hole! My GPR is my most reliable firing flinter to date.

Also, I've never used a pick...I think the Lymans have a patent breech like a TC...and using something like Goex powder I've never had to use a pick...bought a couple 4-5 years ago cause forums like this said I'd need one, but have never, ever used one...in fact, I assume they're in a parts drawer somewhere as I haven't seen them since right after I bought them

Once you get a good flintlock tweeked in they're a real pleasure to shoot. I've got two right now, no center fire rifles at all and I don't care if I never own another center fire rifle, I LOVE my flintlocks. For hunting they'll kill just as good as anything else and you get the satisfaction of doing it the Old Way, using a rock to shoot your gun. Congrats on getting it going, hopefully you'll have a long and happy time shooting flintlocks.

Lymans do have the patented breech like the T/C's and I too bought a pick but never have used it.I can fire my Lyman many times without even cleaning it in a row.
Crowhop,
The flintlock bug is a fierce little thing, once it get's it's teeth sunk in it's hard to shake. :v

If you haven't drilled your touch hole to 1/16", you should. Be sure to use 3f GOEX.
