My Belgian proofed William Moore.

Here is my 11 gauge William Moore, 1st Pic of the lock second of the barrels marked London and third of the Proofs.

I am afraid I do not know enough about proofs to know if they are British or Belgium

Those are English proof marks along with the common blow out plug found on Moore shotguns. Here's what the proof marks look like on my gun and they are Belgian. The barrels are marked in Millimeters not by gauge 18mm is 12ga.

No sir, my Belgium does not have the blow out plugs, I think only the English made Moore's have that...but I could be wrong.

THAT is a VERY NICE Double. It is indeed English, not a Belgium as we have. I'd really like to see more of the gun, especially the stock.

The easiest way to tell is Belgium proofed guns have ELG in a circle. Is you cant see the circle, the gun is probably too rusty to be salvaged. Thats what I was told years ago.

A number of British guns had "Blow-out plugs" Some as the tubes were converted from flint others because some makers believed venting air into the tubes helped the combustion of Black powder. Some as pure decoration to remind owners of days gone by. O.D.

Well, I got the old girl cleaned and detailed and I'm pleased with the outcome.
This is a much nicer Belgian gun than I'm used to seeing most are plain jane and heavy as a tank. This one is more refined and better built. The furniture was nickel and still retains some of the platings, the wood is a higher grade and it's nicely engraved. One thing that truly surprised me is that not one screw in the entire gun is buggered up.
I don't have a set of new nipples yet but just as soon as I get some I'm headed to the range. The barrels are in decent shape no major pitting and only one small dent on the right barrel.

My first was Belgian. Used it a lot in club matches.
I found that Belgian tubes are brazed together to never come loose.
English have always soldered, and are more likely to separate.
But they sure are lighter weight.

Ebony was common in the higher grade guns. Here's a vid on making a reproduction.
