Old Percussion Cap Speed Loader

Though I don’t shoot caplocks, I saw this antique cap holder and thought it might be of interest to someone who enjoys seeing how the old timers got by.
This is made of leather and the article said it was attached to a shoulder strap used for easy re-capping. Four original caps are still on it.

For one who loads from the bag at the range or in the field, some form of capper, whether elaborate or plain, is very helpful.

I shudder to imagine opening a tin of caps to pluck one out each time. Spilling the tin would be very unfortunate.

I use one of the disk-shaped leather cappers and they work supremely well. Interesting design above. I guess it holds the caps well on the leather nubs since they've been there for so many years.

When I need to use my cap lock at a Woods Walk, I use the capper I displayed in a previous post.

Would that open design permit moisture getting into your caps?
Looking at the old one it seems the caps would be somewhat protected from any moisture.

I live in W PA and if moisture was a problem my rifles would rarely fire. Perhaps others have a different experience.

No, but the sealant on the priming compound will partially protect the caps. Water will wick into the caps on the old design. When it rains both of the cappers would be put into the more protective shooting pouch.
