Original Flint US Martial Model 1816 North Pistol.

In extra fine overall condition. Metal is smooth overall, retaining 60%-plus original brown finish.

Wood is extra fine, retaining an exceptional inspector's cartouche. Extra inspector's initials on handle to the left of the tang. Barrel markings excellent; super lock markings.

Very few better ones exist. Untouched, as issued, a fine pistol to look at.

This model of 1816, calibre .54, was the last of the US martial pistols to have a wooden rammer, for after that they had steel rods, with swivel attachment & were deemed much more suitable for military use. Note the slanted brass pan - reminisent of the model of 1777 Charleville musket & being applied to the muskets from some of the contract manufacturers, like Eli Whitnet.
: All of these smoothbored pistols were favoured for Buffalo hunting from Horseback. Now THAT would be fun - somewhat dangerous as well, just to heighten the excitement level a bit.
