Old pistols and a few questions

^^^^ I dont care about the ATF definition. A revolver can be a pistol. Ha!

I am struck by the Whitney alone, I think there were only somewhere around 35,000 total that were manufactured. Federal army purchased 10,000 or so. I believe something like 6,000 were purchased by the Navy.

I have no idea what you paid but in my opinion it was a darn good buy.

There are two models and several changes indicative to each. You will have great fun tracking down the history of that one!

More good news. The Whitney is all numbers matching to include the grips. She cleaned up nice and functions perfectly. Serial number 11587X with HQ stamped on one grip the frame and brass trigger guard.

I’m feeling pretty dang lucky on this one.

Need to clean up the Remington.

I would get pricing on both of them before I did anything like shoot them. The Whiney looks to be the real deal and if it is you suspect the other one is as well.

There is some serious possible coin involved there. You break a part and there is no replacing it though again the experts could tell you if that is a value or not.

As stated the other pistol is a Remington New Model Army Revolver in .44, which is why the bore looks bigger. They are most often called the 1858 Remington. It looks like the front sight may be dovetailed. Take a look and see. If so it is an early production. The later productions had the front sight screwed in like the repros. Also look closely at the left grip for the remains of a cartouche which would indicate military use. Great finds!

Nice find. It is alway great when the treasure hunt is a success. I can't tell if the 63 original or not. How's the 97. That is a great gun. Careful with the extractor when you break the 97. They have a tedency to fall out on there own.

The 97 is pretty nice. 24” octagon. Might take it out today and see how she shoots. Looks to be a 1906.
