Some of the best powder I have in my stock is from the 60's. It's not black powder and is used in one of my wife's unmentionable rifles. I worked up a bunch of loads for this gun with a lot of different powders and this particular one shot lights out above brand new lots of similar powder. So if smokeless can hold up well for nearly 60 years then black should last a whole lot longer. Good score on that much black for free.

Now Hanshi and Jake, play nice.

I purchased the .50 cal rifle and the seller threw in five molds and a bunch of powder.

1 1/2 Goex cartidge powder
3 Goex cowboy powder
3 Swiss 3f
1 Hodgdon 3f
1 Wano 3f
16 Goex 3f
12 Goex 2f
7 Goex 4f

I was scared driving home. It looks like I am set for awhile. Now, if he only had caps.
Your setting on a fuel tank with extremely powerful and very easily ignited gasoline and BP scare you? Vaporized gasoline, for example, is at least as bad as nitro glycerin. There have been people who stepped on cans of powder during a Tipi fire are rendezvous and it ignited and all it did was split the can and toss the guy away. A powder company in MT was testing the stuff and found they could fuze a bottle in the middle of a case and it would only set off 2-3 other bottles in the case and simply toss the others around and scorch the labels. A dealer friend of mine bought the stuff with the scorched bottles and sold it. And entire semi-load over turned on a freeway ramp and nothing happened other than blocked traffic, they loaded it on another truck and it was on its way again. The ONLY reason BP is rated as it is by ATF is because it has a lower ignition temp than the various other propellant powders. Uncontained, like in a can or bottle its a very low order explosive. Strongly contain it and you will get a more energetic result. Some smokeless propellants, that have no restrictions like BP does are far more energetic when subjected to a high velocity impact and act like an HE. So don't worry so much. Keep sparks or flame away store in a weak container and enjoy your BP firearms.
