There will be a Civil War weekend this Fri-Sun at Old Washington Park, Ark. Washington is a largely preserved 'border town' that was on the Southwestern trail into Texas, and through which such notables as Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie passed--legend has it that the local blacksmith James Black made a knife for Bowie there ca. 1830. My artillery unit will be there demo'ing cannon firing with our 10 pounder Parrot, and a lot of other reenactors, too.

Well, now my unit commander says we are not taking our Parrot gun to Old Washington...just the unit will camp there...rats! I was looking forward to shooting the old gal again [even though we shoot her alot at La Tech home football games]. Anyway, there will be other artillery untis there as well as cavalry, infantry, etc...seminars on old time skills and history, etc...
