Very Nice latest effort EagleEye! I'm enjoying the southern banded horn I got from you in Dec. Gotta love that osage orange color! As a woodturner and woodworker, I've wondered if osage would hold its color, but, I suspect, that like cherry, it will darken with exposure to the air and UV. It's great to see your superb horn craftsmanship - keep it Up!

Mike, glad to hear you like your horn. Should be a couple more added to my inventory soon and thanks for the kudos. To Beaverman, yes I found during this process that for a domestic wood, it is nice and dense, but gotta keep the chisels sharp. The wood will even take internal threading without a lot of tearout. At least so far. :v

Here's a couple of pics of my progress so far. I decided to use a 1 piece tip of osage orange and permanently apply to the horn. Just finished installing the front staple. All thats left to do is turn and carve a stopper plug and give her a good waxing.

This horn I finished a couple of months ago and is quite larger (3 5/16 in diameter base plug & is 16 in long). The horn has it's usual characteristic white streaks in areas that are already scraped thin enough. One area had a small web like characteristic that I'm keeping an eye on to see if it develops into anything. Shouldn't, but we'll see. The tip is a screwtip turned from Cocobolo and the base plug is cherry.
