Except for Archery, the only only firearm I've been using for the last few years has been a ml. The smoothbore I just had built is my way of thumbing my nose at the State. We can't use ml rifles during our shotgun season, only smoothbores with a min gauge of .20.....so I built one and now I'll hunt shotgun season again.

Thats all I hunted with last year and will this year also. The plan is to go traditional from now on.When I get my smoothie its gonna open up a whole new world of huntin for me.Cant wait to go after some small game and waterfowel

I didn't do much hunting this past season, since I just got my first ML in October of last year... but this year is gonna be different! From October thru February, will be ML only. (Can I still use my longbow for the early archery season?)

i deer hunt with a flintlock only and bowhunt....i still have my .22 fer small game to be replaced by a .36 flinter i will build after i finish my .54 flinter....i know i know but i just started in 2003 :shake: :v ..............bob

I will do most of my hunting with my recurve. I have a TC Renegade in .50 caliber that I just put together from ebay parts that I will use during the early ML season and will use during rifle season at times.

While ML hunting is not very common in GE I started last year with it. Until that time I always used modern firearms, but now I own three ML, Investarm Hawken, GPR and the latest a Traditions Deerhunter. this pretty rifle I will use with scope especially for hunting at the bait in winter. There no chance to get a deer without a scope. So I will no longer need modern firearms.

That is all I hunt with. Just like the
challenge I guess,
and that is the only guns I own.
snake-eyes:hmm:

Heres another question to add but not to take away from the original one.Why do you use a muzzleloader? For me like snake eyes said its the challenge and the history that goes with them. And I like bein the odd ball in my group of centerfire buddies.

For me it is the challenge, too. Not so much the challenge of hunting, but more the challenge to show the criticals that hunting with ML will work also in GE. Because many fools here don't want believe it. They claim that ML are old rubbish, which don't hit anything, blablabla.

Only contemporarily built flintlocks for many, many years. I own nothing more modern than a '94 Winchester, and I haven't SHOT it since I was released from the Navy the first time just after the Cuban Missile Crisis :shocked2:

For the last 2 years I've hunted squirrels with ML only. Using a .32 Crockett and a .56 smooth Renegade with shot.

Except for archery season with my recurve, I've only used ML rifles for deer the past 2 years also. Had success with both my GPRs, a .54 flint and a .50 percussion. I don't see me ever going back to the shotgun.

I still tote a modern shotgun for birds and ducks, but at least it's a SxS double. I may switch to ML only for that someday too, just to bug my buddies.

There's just a really big "cool factor" that goes with traditional muzzleloaders. Not so much the extra challenge, altho that is a part of it too. It's just more fun with a ML. I don't NEED to kill something every time I go hunting. And I like the smell of burning Goex.
ML season gives me an extra weekend of deer hunting and that is why I got started with muzzleloading in the first place. Woods time is the important thing about hunting for me. I buy extra deer tags every year and let lots of deer walk every year just to make sure I get to hunt as much as is legal. Once I figgered out how much fun I'd been missin' by not shooting blackpowder, I wished I'd started sooner.

I've been takin' a suppository rifle to every gun show for the last 3 years. Sometimes I even sell one! Haven't used one for 3 years now. I will be keepin' a shotgun fer 2 legged vermin though.

I mainly hunt with my smokepole. In Ohio you have to hunt deer with a shotgun or muzzleloader instead of a regular rifle during Deer Gun Season. I am not a big fan of shotguns. Besides I like the challenge and skill required.

I do deer hunt a week with my Shiloh Sharps 45-110, and thats a black powder cartridge. I shoot 110 Grains of 1-F and a 550 Grain Paper Patch Bullet.

Any other time, Its PRB and Goex only.

And of course, I bowhunt too.

I only carry muzzleloader in the field. except for shotgunning because I don't own a smoothbore.

Guilty as charge for about 20 years, because I enjoy the added chalenge and the sense of stepping back in time in the type of gun/gear and clothing, it makes the day more than just a day of going out and popping a buck from 250yds off a rest with a scoped CF, you can get into a real one on one with the game and the earth itself.

Something from this list is all I hunt with.

3 longbows
.32 Crocket
.50 Flint longrifle
.50 TC perc Hawken
.56 TC perc Renegade smoothbore

I'm resisting the urge to buy a custom .40 flint longrifle at present.

My centerfires are all delegated to non-sporting duties.
