I use longbows, recurves, muzzleloaders and handguns. Every one has it's own appeal. I plan to try building and hunt with a selfbow before too long also.

Well, I hunt with a modern bow during the archery season. I use a centerfire rifle in Connecticut on private land for the meat hunt and in my home state of Massachusetts, I will use the muzzleloader during the shotgun season as well as the muzzleloader season.

When I hunt out of southern New England for deer or other big game, it will be with a handgun.

To add some substance to this post, I personally know several people who in Massachusetts hunt exclusively with a muzzleloader. Not to get political, but here you need a license for a long arm.About a decade ago, the guidelines for issuance and revocation became more stringent. So a number of hunters in this state lost their FID cards as it was called. Muzzleloaders are exempt so many of these people have turned to the muzzleloader.

So I hunt with many implements but I know several, due to legal reasons, hunt exclusively with them.

Moving and work have kept me from doing much hunting or any shooting for that matter. But I haven't hunted with anything except muzzleloaders for several years. The only cartridge firearms I own are a very old Remington single shot .22 and a new Ruger 96 in .17HMR. (It has never been fired and is over a year old) Everything else I own loads from the front! The only "in-lines" are 1858 Remingtons.

Primative ML only for me for big game. But - I still varmint hunt with centerfire metalic stuff. I take shots out to 500 + /- yards on chucks and coyotte.

I use muzzleloaders and air rifles. When I need modern, I get my fix with the air rifles on small game. Everything else is muzzleloading. Actually, most of the small game is muzzleloading too.

have sold almost all my modern firearms except a .22 revolver for plinking and a single shot .223 for varmit hunting, front stuffers are just too much fun.

I do my hunting with either a 50 caliber TC Renegade or a 62 caliber Zephyr with the nod going to the Zephyr. If I find myself hunting in an area frequented by the deadly Sandpacker snake I will pack a cap n ball revolver along for increased protection.

The elusive, much feared, Sandpacker snakes travel in pairs and are highly aggressive and territorial. The first snake will wrap itself around your legs and trip you. The second snake will pack sand up your keaster until you are dead. These dangerous snakes are the terror of strong men everywhere!

For any man brave enough or foolish enough to hunt Sandpackers in their dens the phrase, "Watch your backside" takes on a whole new meaning.

I'VE BEEN HUNTING WITH A MUZZLELOADER FOR ALL
KINDS OF GAME,SINCE 1972.
SHOT A DEER THIS SEASON WITH MY .58 CAL JEAGER
FLINT.

Have thought a long time about that step, but will sell all my modern firearms, too and only hunt/shoot with ML. The most modern gun is my cap and ball revolver.

Having only ML avoids trouble with the authority. When I want to shoot modern I use my SIG Sauer police pistol when I'm on duty for police training.

Although I have hunted with a ML for years, I also use my centerfire rifles. I have a small collection of Mausers both military and sporters and enjoy hunting with these ol gals too.

Every deer I have killed but one I have shot with ML. Use them for all seasons, since 1982. Dilly

Although I only build flintlock LRs, I like all guns and have owned at one time or another, upwards of 30 guns. To me, a gun is a tool that is necessary to hunt and seeing "the hunt" is the main objective, the kind of "tool" that is used is secondary. I hunt w/ MLers and modern stuff and enjoy the variety, although for squirrels, it's always a flint LR. Elk are only hunted w/ a MLer as well because of a longer season and a Sept. hunt. I'm also a "meathunter" and in Wisconsin we're blessed w/ a deer herd numbering 1.3 million w/ liberal bag limits and I use a Rem. 742 autoloader for obvious reasons. Boy, that venison tastes good!!......Fred
