2000 gr. Slug with 570 gr. FFFG
I was 70 ft back with a piece of Paracord hiding behind a large round bale only the wood was damaged
There is nothing "Opp's" about that.
That is a completely direct and idiotic attempt to do nothing but destroy something with explosive powder.
The obvious flaw would be the fit and seating of the barrel in the stock.
The barrel moved within it's wooden carrier, with the load described, trunnions would have been better suited to hold the barrel in place.
It's Newtons 3rd law of motion.
Your experiment is nothing learned that is new to mankind,, you just had the mishap of re-learning centuries old technology.
Opp's, did I tell the truth? Heaven forbid.

Ya I made my own barrel out of 4130 chromoly and it held up great I had it tied between four fence posts so the bend of the posts would absorb the recoil I just think my stock was not strong enough wood. Honestly the stock was not my worry point I am just glad I wasn't holding it. I planned on using a 1300 gr projectile and starting out with 250 gr. FFG and go up from there. We will have to see where stock number two gets us.

Please tell me you did not make a barrel out of a pipe. It held up great for one shot. That won't last. Gun barrels are made from solid bar stock with the bore drilled out. There is a good reason for that. The barrel you have there will break the stock even if it you use a different kind of wood. The breech is too small. A 1 3/4 inch octagon breech will have about double the surface area at the back. You need that. It will also be much heavier. You need that too. But the lock won't fit if the breech is that large. So you have to inlet the lock into the barrel. That makes a weak spot in the barrel. Won't work. So you need to use a patent breech.

4 bore is at the limit of what a person can shoot. You have no margin of error when building one. Every little thing matters a lot. Even the shape of the back of the tang matters. How much clearance is there between the barrel key and the lug? Does not look like very much. Probably why the fore end broke. The fit between the barrel and the stock needs to be PERFECT. A poor inletting job is certain to break the stock. Every little detail makes a big difference.

Buy a barrel that is made right. It will cost a lot of money and take a year or more. If you want to make your own barrel, buy the the equipment and learn how to do it right. It will cost far more than buying a barrel. The right wood for the stock will be expensive. If you want wood that looks nice it will be extremely expensive and add in a whole new set of issues to deal with. But most important is to learn everything you can about gun design and building. Then build several normal guns to get your skill to the level that need to pull it off. If you don't want to do that then cheapest way to get a 4 bore is to call Holland & Holland and ask them to build one for you. Sit down and have a long talk with a nice banker first. They have built a number of 4 bore rifles and do extremely high quality work. Best of all, Holland & Holland usually charges a lot less money than doctors do.

County ER?

Doctor. There's a guy in room four with a barrel stuck in his forehead. Can you look at him?

I'm sorry, nurse. There are several illegal aliens with head colds and hangnails and no medical insurance ahead of him.

He'll have to wait.
that is so true!!
