It's no secret that no matter what sort of gun you carry openly you will be the first to be taken out. From a flintlock to a semi-automatic pistol on your hip the carrier becomes the prime target. If "Mr. Bad guy" walks up behind you and puts a bullet in your head what good are you?You are no longer a good guy with a gun, you're dead and no longer a factor. So why bring attention to yourself? Stay alive and be of some help.
Right, that must be why law enforcement and security only carry concealed.

Right their uniforms surely wouldn't do it, it's bound to be the concealed carry that makes them stand out.
Exactly, they aren’t hiding anything, You just proved my point even further. More good guys with guns (that people can see) = less crime. If there’s three guys walking down the street openly carrying guns and a criminal walks up and blows one away, I think you can guess what happens next, and I don’t think the criminal would take his chances in that situation.

Not exactly a secret either, that thugs avoid cops and people with guns. They just take their "business" elsewhere. To each his own but I think that element of surprise or fear of the "unknown carrier" is a deterrent.

Maybe if more people openly carried their firearms, we wouldn’t have this hysteria, and your average citizens would understand that guns are not evil. I think that’s where the problem is. We have kept our guns hidden as if they are evil, horrifying, objects that are to be kept hidden away in shame, and must never be seen by the public eye. No wonder we have so many morons trying to take our guns.
Frankly, it’s not shame, it’s common sense and personal security. Unless I’m out in the field, I don’t want anyone knowing that I’m carrying. Open carry doesn’t just advertise to the hysterical public. Open carry in urban or suburban settings clearly advertises to the bad guys that you need to be taken out first. This, not to mention the hassle you WILL get when you attract the attention of law enforcement.
While about 45% of American households have firearms, most recent estimates are that about 6 million Americans legally carry firearms on a daily basis out of a population of 300 million. That comes out to less than 2 percent of the population. Even if every single one of them openly carried, that would still be uncommon and attract attention.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Open carry in town if it is not your job is inmop impolite and shows a lack of character. I grew up on a farm and was taught to take the guns off and put them on the rack when you come in the house. Wearing visible hardware to go to Walmart is just plain rude. It's all about intimidation and making a statement. Tactically open carry is a mistake as well. Walk softly, be polite and if the situation warrents it have a plan that no one needs to know about.

Lately it Seems everyone around here is carrying. The more they push gun laws the more folks arm up. Makes me wonder if that's the plan.

Your “common sense” sounds like the push for “common sense” gun laws by the lunatics on the left. In fact I’d say it’s not sensible at all. I see no need to sacrifice my right and duty, just to protect the fragile feelings of the deceived, uninformed, unrealistic, cowardly people who are afraid of the right to keep and BEAR arms. In early America men carried their guns with them just about everywhere they went, and it was accepted and normal and I’m sure there were no calls or reports about A gUy wiTH uH gUN! If people hadn’t passed off the responsibility of their own safety to a “police force” that usually doesn’t show up until it’s too late, things wouldn’t have gotten so out of hand. these people are so brainwashed they encourage a government growing in hostility towards its own citizens to stock up on weapons and ammo, and beg them to take ours away. I’m sure the 2-3% of the population who fought in the revolution were seen as extremists, indecent, and rude by the polite loyalist crowd. Personally, I’m glad they didn’t see it that way.

After I shelled out the money for a concealed license, the governor announced open or constitutional carry would be permitted in Texas. But thats alright, I prefer concealed anyway. It keeps the "bad guys" guessing.

Was over at OR Sheriff for a CHL renewal. Line was out the door for new applicants. Officer came out and said they could apply but might be 4-6 months for approval due to new legislation. Consensus must have been was FDAT! as applications have dropped to almost nothing as have CHL classes. Meanwhile sales have rocketed.
