I was thinking of buying a Pedersoli Hawken in 54 caliber. It is on sale, and I have another 75 dollar off coupon. so it would be under 500 bucks. What do you guys think? Does the barrel come off easily for cleaning? It is 1/48 twist. It the rifling deep enough for patch, or made for conicals? I have a L+R lock for a TC Renegade, does that fir a Pedersoli?

I like the shorter barrel, set triggers, and 6.6 pound weight. I really have a place n my heart for 54 caliber for some reason. I have hoards of supplies for a 54. My TC Renegade seems a bit bulky after a few hours.

Renegade lock will not fit the Pedersoli. While many prefer custom rifles I believe the Pedersoli is the best factory guns available. If you want a quality gun for your money I would say buy iy!. The rifling is deeper than the T.C.s and they shoot round ball quite well. :hmm:

It's a nice rifle but honestly it's not much different than your Rengade, just a little lighter.
That grade of Pedersoli flintlock is OK. It's not the best or the worst.
A Cabelas Blue Ridge or Pedersoli Frontier in flintlock is a better rifle in about same price range and it has a much better lock.

All in all I think those old Investarms Hawkens are good rifles...more so in percussion.

I think the thing I am looking for the most is a reduction in weight from the renegade. I don't know, but the Blue Ridge looks just as heavy and longer to wrestle through the laurel. I have a L+R lock on the Renegade and I saw a big improvement in shootablity with a good lock. It looks like I would have some trade off in performance like the lock with the Pedersoli Hawken, so I guess it is not wise to trade weight for lock quality. I have a RMC that is butt ugly but does everything well for my hunting. I don't like the fast twist in my model of RMC or the caliber. The same size in a 54 with a slow twist is really my desire.

I had a Blue Ridge....if yer concerned about toting through thick stuff its not the gun for you. Mine was .45 flint. Never really got it sighted in good before I sold. Ram Rod snapped FIRST time I loaded....kinda put a bad feeling in my craw and I sold it. It went off and didnt kick but was Longggg

I just bought a Pedersoli Hawken .50 from Cabela's last week and was surprise how heavy it was. It certainly did not feel the advertised 7.1 lbs. I looked at the Pederoli site and that rifle actually weighs 8.6 lbs. Craftsmanship was okay but not super grade. I would give this rifle a B- based on my experience with it so far. I just don't see how the .54 cal, with the same length could possibly weigh the advertised 6.6 lbs.

I went today to Cabelas armed with a 75 dollar coupon and customer points. I also thought is was too heavy and the lock looked a few steps down from a L+R RPL. I did not get it.
