Hello,

I have been using an old RCBS 505 and after it fell off my table, it's not been very good at coming back to zero. After I got it, I spent days going over it doing all the 'mods' to make it awesome, and it WAS!! But now after the fall, it's not so good. I can't see anything wrong, bent or brocken and I do understand all the in's and out's of this scale, so fixing it is a bit of a mystery (maybe dented bearings, but look good under a microscope).

So, I see RCBS are making the M1000 that is a triple poise beam scale like my 505. I prefer the triple as I find the 1grain adjustment better to work with :)

I have looked for hours on the net and forums and found almost nothing on the M1000, is this 'new' scale as good as the older ones or are they Chinese rubbish and I should try and fix my 505?

Fixing my 505 maybe a problem as I live in the UK and I can't seem to find any retailer that sells spares (bearings)!

Thanks.

You can usually p/u used ones pretty cheap but I don't know since you are where you are, how hard it would be to get. If you go on line to a place that sells them, they usually post reviews from people who have purchased them.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, but I have done all of the above.

The only place I can see that sells them in the UK does not have customer reviews.
This shop has also said they know nothing about the old models and told me to talk to RCBS.
RCBS (usa) has not replied about my 505.

So I am kinda stuck.

Guess I should not have dropped my 505 :(

P.S,

I also pointlessly asked them if the M1000 was good or poor quality Chinese made. No reply.
I have read that the newer RCBS scales are made in China and are of lower quality to the older 10-10, 505, 502 models.

I know a retail shop is never going to say the goods they sell are of low quality!

The lack of email replies and internet info is why I posted here.
Has anybody used the M1000?

P.S,
I've actually now found a way to find lots of shops selling the M1000 in the UK, so I'll find the cheapest shop and just buy one.

We have a number of supply companies here in the USA, have you contacted Brownells or MidwayUSA and asked them? They usually have some kind of a "chat" function that works; see my 'roundball cavities' thread. Tinhorn

We have a Brownells in the UK, but they want £191 ($235)

I have found Northern Optics and they want £155 delivered! ($190)

It's a huge pity nobody has used one that can give an opinion, guess I'll just buy it and see for myself.

If you go to Midwayusa and bring up the scale, it has the reviews there for you to read. I tried other reload places but they either didn't have the reviews or didn't sell the scale.

Thank you for that hint, I'd not spotted it.
I've ordered one from a UK shop.
I think it will be as nice, if not better than my 505.

Can I be inquisitive. What are you using the scale for. Are you a long range shooter here in the old UK?

Sorry, I don't want to say why I want the scale. I don't feel like being told endlessly I don't need it for what I'm doing. I'm a shooter and I'd like one, that's all that's important.

The new one in the UK at £155 has now been repriced at £175 after I bought it and waiting for the bill to pay in the email. So I cancelled that! I found a MINT 505 on Ebay last night and held off until the M1000 was paid for, but it got sold while I slepped AND the M1000 went up in price!

So I lost them both and RCBS has still not replied to my email.

So the hunt continues.

I consider your reply a little sharp. I had no intention of telling you anything. We all want things, whether needed, or not. As I stated, I was being inquisitive. It matters not one jot to me, how you spend/waste your money.

I'm sorry you feel offended by my reply, but I'm an old hand at forums, I carry a great many forum thread scars to prove it. 'You' may not have intended to tell me what I need or do not need, but I can guarantee a great many others would.

I didn’t really feel offended. I guess I can still be shocked by bad manners. Just for the record, I have both balance and digital scales and I don’t need either of them.

Come on man, "shocked"!
I actually consider that a little sharp.

Has anybody used the M1000 that can offer an opinion?
Thanks.
