I may have an opportunity to get a young girl hooked. My 19 year old son likes this girl whose mom doesn't want guns in the house. I don't think she dislike them, but is just afraid of having one. The dad/husband likes guns and wants one, but respects his wife's wishes. Anyway, my son wants to take her on a "date" to the range to shoot his old Stevens rolling block .22, my 9mm, and whatever else. I think I might sneak in my smokepole with a light load to let her smell the fun, then see if my son wants to invite her out to the next "dress up funny" event. I'll keep ya posted. :)

If the gal is anything like the ones I took shooting when a much younger man she is likely shoot up all your ammo! :hatsoff:

kjmillig,

Anytime you can expose a person to firearms in the proper light it's brings another to our side. And if it's a smokepole, all the better. GW

Invite her dad. It sounds like he would have fun. Everybody loves smoke poles. Just start em out with the light loads and have fun. :hatsoff:

I would invite the mom, dad, and girlfiend along. If mom sees how safe firearms can be when handled properly, she might be won over as well. And she might even want to try it. It never hurts to ask.

good luck, snagg

Any way ya go, I would go easy & don't shoot nuthin big or with lots of recoil.

Easiest way to scare them off fast is ALLOT or recoil or tremendous Booms..... Baby them along & they will want to come back.....

Personally I would do the smokepole later after thay are used to the shooting. a .22 is a good way to start one out shooting & how I started of my kids & some of their girlfriends in the past.

I'm planning on inviting her dad out at another time as we are good friends as well. Having me along is cramping my son's style enough as it is. Her dad also would be unbearable :winking: .
I have a .50 cal half stock, so I'm figuring 35-40 gr. of powder max. over a thin patched roundball to reduce recoil. I'll sandbag her up so she doesn't have to try to hold the weight either. We're scheduled for next Saturday.

Just got back from the range! Yee-haw! We did'nt have time to pull out the BP, but she definitely wants to go shootin again. She said she likes rifles better than handguns. :hmm: I said we'd shoot the muzzleloader next time and she just said, "OK!" I also told her to invite her mom out. Also found out her dad used to hunt in his younger days as well. Things are looking up.
