For sale is an original M1855 bayonet with it's original scabbard.
I was told by a more experienced collector that this specific one was intended for a Colt Special rifle.
The only markings that I've seen are the standard US mark, and an inspector's "M" mark. The bayonet itself is in very good condition, with almost zero rust.
A few small dings here and there, but those have been there for a long time (perhaps since the war!).
The scabbard is of the split (or buff) leather type, apparently a later war variety. The leather definitely shows it's age, and is quite dry and cracked, but all there. As the pictures show, the buff leather of the frog has faded in color a bit with time.
For what it's worth, the man I bought it from said that it belonged to his grandfather who lived in Bethlehem PA (not a CW veteran, but possibly the son of one). I can't verify that though, or trace it to any specific unit.
Asking $295 OBO.
