I’m sure I will regret this but that’s another story for another day. A.J Plate was a San Francisco retailer and sold several versions of this plains rifle for big game hunting out West. The rifle was made by Slotter of Pennsylvania for A.J. Plate and is marked as such. I suspect this rifle is circa 1850s-1860s and sports a 32 inch barrel with a clean bore. The bore is over .50 and I believe it would be considered a .52 caliber. The double set triggers work fine and hold cock when set trigger is set first, it does not hold cock if set trigger is not used. The overall condition is very good and even though I haven’t shot this one I believe it is very shootable. The only flaw I see on the rifle is the small section of tang that is missing and shown in photo. The rifled barrel is marked as a twist and gain near the breach. The inside of the patch/cap box is marked Slotter. Not often that you have a chance to own such a colorful and historical piece of Americana.
Pice is $2600 shipped in the lower 48. I will be happy to provide additional information, photos etc. and will be happy to speak by phone if you wish. Please PM with questions. I will entertain trade offers but it would have to be something that really peaks my interest, please discuss in PM. Thanks View attachment 53525
