Original rifle worth it?

It was my understanding that during regular rifle season there were no caliber restrictions meaning I could use it for the November season. Unless the .44 and up isn't just for the muzzleloader season but as a general rule. I very well could be wrong.

Anytime hunting in Michigan with a muzzleloader it .44 and above regardless of the season for deer. I hunt with a 40 cal for deer here in Kansas where it legal and it kills very well at closer ranges.

The original quality of this gun,is not high quality to begin with. Personally, I see a $500 gun, tops. Now, I love original guns. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and for me, this gun doesn't do it. As far as the lock, that wouldn't bother me. What is ever wrong with it, it can be fixed. The barrel, is the same story if you are in love with the gun.I could replace the missing wood, to make it look good. I don't care what cal. it is. It can be enjoyed somewhere. Not all guns need to be deer guns. It is up to the owner to know the game laws.

I concur with some of the others that it was not a high quality to start with, probably a "hardware store" gun. Unless I had close personal ties to its history it would not interest me. I

Back action lock would (typically) place it as 1850 or later.

The rifle is super plain/generic.

My opinion - $800 might be a good price if there are 4 or 5 other similar rifles included in the deal and they are all still shootable.

I'm betting there is a good reason the bore is "full of lint" and it isn't because it was stored that way. My guess is the inside of the barrel isn't any better than the outside, which is very rough. At $800 someone will be very happy...but it won't be you! :td:

Thanks for all the info and your opinions guys. It is appreciated. And I have turned down his offer and went back to my original plan of building a .62 cal hawken smooth rifle
