Hello from Germany,

Today I saw a real good looking original german shotgun flinter from 1750. It looks a bit dump, because the butt is real thick, but I think it is in good condition. So what do you think. should I buy it or not.

How can you resist buying it.
Heck it is almost Christmas time and just imagine how happy you will be to find it under the tree with your name on it.

Hi volatpluvia,

it is a single barrel. I mean the german "plump"= clumsy. So a very big and unhandy butt.

I reckon the big butt was to add some weight and spread the recoil out a bit. Sounds like a gun that was designed to be used.

Buy it by all means, or you will alaways regret it.I think that a single barrel flinter would be a great gun to own.

Sundog you are a wise and noble person!

More details:

It has a cal. of 17 mm/.69, the barrel goes from octogonal to round and is blank. Furnish is brass, half stocked, replaced wooden rod, simple flintlock. Price about € 480.

Still flint? Would go for probably $850 -$1250 or so here, depending upon condition (or more dependent upon who was selling it).

Hi Stophel,

yes still flint. Condition is II- if you know what that means.

Hello from Germany,

today I made the deal and bought the shotgun from this auction house in Munich for € 600. Next week I'll take it. It is from 1730 not as told from 1750. Its cal. is 17mm, so a 12 ga.

ASAP I'll post pics. I'm looking forward if the frizzen will still produce sparks.

Regards

Kirrmeister
