I know most of us here champion Mr. Hoyt. He has done some work for me, and mostly I have been really satisfied with it. Mainly reaming and re-rifling bores.

The quality of his liner installations, on two different occasions have been a very mediocre ehhhhh.

I have a really neat antique double rifle I am restoring, and it needs liners. 2 of them. Who else besides Mr. Hoyt does quality work installing their liners and cutting riflings?

I think I read someplace he was training a female apprentice. I could be wrong.

I had Taylor do some work for me 10 or so years ago when he was still here in Puyallup WA., excellent job on a rebore, timely and reasonably priced.

No, he is still taking on and turning out work.

Hoyt is still working but nearing retirement. He still has the business, didn't turn it over to a son. He is training a young female who is very interested.

What was the nature of the problem you had?

I had a 2-band Colt Special musket barrel relined about a year ago I think, and I notice that the muzzle is bulged slightly now. I did not say anything about it, as it is so slight I did not even notice it at first.

I had a barrel for a mule ear relined, and when it came back, there was a considerable amount of liner protruding past the nipple hole. I had to carefully file a notch in it and cut new threads in it for the nipple to fit correctly. It was returned to me with the nipple halfway cross threaded and nowhere near perpendicular to its hole. Really did a rough job of facing the muzzle. Noticeable circle where the liner is.

The other was a smoothbore that was lined. I pulled the breechplug and discovered a big ol hardened booger of epoxy that had been pushed into the bore at the breech end when the liner was installed. At first I was under the impression that the seller had installed the liner, but later learned he had sent it to Bob.
