My next project I intend to try taking a tang up and over the comb. Having never done this before I would like to hear any and all comments from anyone that has. Any tips would be appreciatted.
In addition I have been told that the Bevel Bros. did an article in Muzzle Blast at some time regarding this. Anyone know what month and year this would be?

Just curious Packdog.
What would be the point of this? Just something different?

Several of the late flint TN builders finally got their stocks so slinder that breakage was almost a certainty. They used extended tangs and trigger plates to reinforce the wrist area of the stocks. The Bean rifles were famous for this characteristic.

The buttplates had extensions, as well as the toe plates, so that the entire stock was wrapped in an iron framework.

They needed it since they were often no more than an 3/4" thick.

There is a good example in the Foxfire 5 book showing the lollipop tang with the spear steping up over the comb and running to meet the heelplate extension.

Host: Where might that be in the Foxfire5 book ? I have been thru it 4 times & cannot find it. I found a guy that builds them, and a pointed tang, but not a over the comb tang. I guess I am going right over it & looking too hard.......

Thanks
