I am new to smoothies. What is the point of using an overcard? I have been shooting patched round balls, patches lubricated with Maxi Lube. Why the extra material in the barrel? Is it to keep a loose ball from sliding down the barrel. accuracy? inquiring minds want to know.

If you are using a tight fitting patched rd. ball there is no need for a card on top of it. Some people, myself included, use a card wad and a cushion wad under even a patched rd. ball. It ssems to give me better consistancy and accuracy. The only time you need an overshot card with a rd. ball is is you are using a bare ball with no patch. Just the over powderwad, cushion wad, ball, overshot card. Powder first of course. ::

Some people shoot an undersized caliber ball, (like a .69 caliber in a .75) if the patch/ball combo seems loose, the overshot card is added insurence that the ball will stay in place until fired...

Tip: If you nick the edge of the over-shot card with your thumbnail, it will leave a small indent for the air to escape through while ramming and load easier...
