I wonder if some wealthy residents of the island wanted the deer gone so they wouldn't worry about their landscape?

There seems to be a trend these days with people in wildlife management with little field experience and more desk experience. Sad but true.

RC, I hear ya Ive hunted the southerntier of NY and up along Lake Ontario in Wayne county farm country for years and I dont see the evidences fo overpopulation the DEC talks about. In fact I see the opposite! In places where it was not uncommon for me to see anywhere from 10-25 deer a day I now sometimes see NONE! In fact last season I saw the least amount of deer ever in the 33 years of deer hunting. But alas hope is in the air I'm going to the northern zone for early muzzleloader next week.
