Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
Direct from the General Hunting Regulations section of the 05-06 digest:
Roadkilled Deer/Possessing Wildlife: It is unlawful at any time to possess live wildlife, except foxes for which a permit has been issued, or animals killed on highways. Pennsylvania residents may possess deer killed by a motor vehicle if they secure a permit number from the Game Commission within 24 hours after taking the deer;
call the appropriate region office. It is not legal to kill "put it out of its misery" any injured wildlife; again, call the appropriate region office.
There is no mention of porcupines specifically in the digest that I could find. I think the "or animals killed on highways" about covers it. :m2c:
ok now....i didn't hit one or find a road kill :nono:....i see them when out hunting and didn't see anything in the regs for hunting them or as to there being legal to do so....i didn't want to try to shoot one if i couldn't do so legal :thumbsup:....and as to road kills all i do is pick there quills to use fer darts in my blow gun eace:.............bob
here in michigan no closed season killed a lot of these things they seem to like large pine trees during the winter and have seen where they have killed or ruined many large trees and being a logger doesnt sit well with me. my friend and i spent a night in the woods once and we were going to eat one that thing stunk so bad we couldnt finish cleaning it much less eat it :results:
Bob,
I couldn't find anything in the regulations about porcupines, or any season on them either. They are not listed under closed seasons either. Maybe a call to the PGC would decide it. :hmm:
Somewhere in your hunting regulation digest it does say all wildlife in Pa is protected. There are hunting seasons provided for some species. If no season dates are shown then there is no open hunting season for the species, so porky is a protected animal. BJH
Up in Northern NY the porkies are THICK and they do considerable damage to the trees year round. That being said, I couldn't bring myself to shoot one. They are really gentle and usually you can walk up within a couple of feet of them without getting them rilled up. If you want a real challange try pulling a quill out of ones back without getting whacked! ::
